I am Elderly

I don't think of myself as 'elderly'. To me, they are very fragile, shrunken, and delicate. I think of myself as about 30-40 cognitively speaking. Physically I feel 80+. But I just read somewhere online that those over 65 years of age are termed elderly. I hadn't heard that before. Retirement age to be sure but not elderly. Geez!
I have occasionally gone to extremes in my obsession not to die. I've thought about if I was rich I would have each of my organs replaced. Silly huh? A lot of surgeries for an old gal too. Becoming a vampire doesn't seem to be happening. Am I not attractive to vamps or what? Okay. Enough silliness.
Do you feel old? Are there things that make you feel as if you are getting up there?

I don't feel old until I try to do something that I used to be able to do and now can't. Then I think to myself, "Oh, yeah, I'm not 65 anymore."

Pretty much what I do. My mind really doesn't like that my body can't seem to keep up anymore.

I don't know what the line is for "senior" . . . but I am now over 55 and some places apparently count seniors at 50+. I can't even get over that. I guess I don't feel old exactly, but I do feel "older" these days - especially in comparison to younger folks.

That's too young to be thought of as old. Comparing myself to younger folk is rather scary.

@celticeagle I envy some things about younger folks, but then again I don't envy their generation of what they will have to go through in these crazy times.

I am just at the age that you have described as elderly, but I don’t feel that way. I am still desperately trying to cling onto middle-age, and I don’t want to give that up any time soon.
I think I am young at heart, even though, the last time I had it checked, it wasn’t ‘young’.
I don’t have an obsession not to die, but I want to live as long as possible in good health. Getting to 80 in good health will do for me. After that, I don’t know.

Being young at heart is so important. I do have an obsession not to die. I fear it greatly. What's a gal like that supposed to maintain anyway?

@celticeagle I’m not even sure I know what you mean. I’ve heard of people who fear dying, but having an obsession not to die? How does that manifest itself in your daily life?

If I am having a good day and all is fine I forget about age. Then I go into the bathroom and see that witch that lives in my mirror Actually just kidding because I know that as long as I can recognize myself in the mirror I am OK,

It is all in how we perceive it in our minds. Many just seem to have it under control better than I do. You certainly don't seem 78 as I don't feel 73.

I am grateful for that bit of logic. So I am still around 60ish. Ah. That feels much better.

Even though I am 63 years old, I feel a little bit old like having to walk slow when I take my first steps out of my bedroom.

Join the crowd on that. I think that some youngsters feel like that, especially after a heavy day of sports the day before. Our poor bodies.

Age is really just a number. How old you feel matters more than the number of years you have lived. Staying active, eating healthy foods, and getting enough rest are important for feeling good and enjoying life. Ultimately, it’s God who gives us life and keeps us going, so we should be thankful for each day we have.

This is true. The chronological one is the one that scares me. If you aren't doing all those things it causes me anyway to fear the onset and the ending. I don't believe in God so that adds to it I think.

Thanks. I feel like I am doing fine until I start thinking of the inevitable. Then the anxiety starts up because I don't want life to end.

Yes, and I have things I still want to accomplish. So no long-term planning is a bummer to me. It is smart that you live the moments.
