Not sure where to go away for vacation

Hubby was thinking of possibly taking off next week from the 24th to the end of the year and going somewhere.
Not sure where to go or what to do.
I am not great at planning vacations.
I know I want to stay in the US.
Preferably in the North/Northeast part of the country.
I am not even opposed to staying more local, if there are interesting places to visit near us.
We live in NYC.

I found a resort place in NJ. It’s in the $400 range per night. 
And seems it doesn’t include dining.
