The Summerville Fire Department and the Wilderness Volunteer Fire Department and the Fayette County Vertical Rescue Team worked together on Tuesday evening to rescue a male hiker who fell into Summersville Lake in West Virginia. The hiker who did not give out his name was trapped waist deep into the lake and the hiker could not get out due to the quicksand conditions on his own. The members of the three rescue teams managed to use the Hughes Bridge to hoist the male hiker out of the danger zone and take him to a local hospital where the hiker was found not to have any serious injuries. That would have been so frightening for the hiker. I don't think it would be easy to get someone out of quicksand.

Quicksand is scary stuff. Waist deep would be bad enough. Thrashing around isn't good and just makes you go down further. I bet he had his life passing in front of his eyes. Scary.

It was good that he was rescued quickly before the quicksand swallowed him up even more, which would have been a terrifying event for the poor man..

Such a helpless feeling for the hiker being trapped and unable to get out. Rescue services like fire departments do more than just put out fires. They are an invaluable resource!
