Shrimp Gumbo Tonight

I decided to put on a shrimp gumbo for dinner tonight. It's another cold night here and gumbo is another one of those comfort food for us southerners! I did have one boo boo. When I picked up some frozen shrimp last week, I picked up a bag of shrimp that had not been peeled and still had the tails on. Ooops! I fixed them anyway and it wasn't that much of a hassle to pop the out of the shells after they were cooked in the gumbo. I just didn't feel like boiling the shrimp and then peeling them all. The hubby groaned, but he wanted to eat. What did you have for dinner tonight? Photo Credit: Pixabay, Public Domain

That's what we do here with shrimp and crawfish! When they get old enough to be able to do it themselves, they best learn quickly if they want to eat it!

@wolfgirl569 In our younger years, we enjoyed crayfish boils with friends. We took turns hosting every 2 weeks and always had a good time. There is also a good bit of work involved in the boiling. The guys always did this part, so was a treat for the ladies to not have to cook on those nights and a good time was had by all.

@kareng That's how I felt. My son loves crab legs too. I don't eat any seafood as it bothers me but I wouldn't want to work that hard to eat anyways

It's afternoon here in India. Tonight I'll have rice; lentils; green vegetables and a glass of hot cow milk mixed with honey as my dinner.

Gumbo sounds like a really good choice for a cold winter night. I hate when I buy the wrong shrimp and have to clean them. Last night we had fire roasted chicken, baked sweet potatoes and brcccoli.

@Marilynda1225 Some of the cajuns in Louisiana do not de-vein shrimp or crawfish and I personally find that disgusting. And also, with crawfish, many suck out the heads and eat the brains and all. EWWW!

If you want to eat, sometimes I guess you just have to peel the shrimps.

I'm sorry you got the wrong shrimp for your gumbo, but used them anyway. I've never had gumbo, though I want to try it. I keep hearing how good it is. However, if it turns out to be anything like cornbread, yes, I know it's a different kettle of fish I will never try it again. People kept raving about cornbread. I tried it. You can have it. It's not for me. However, I have a feeling gumbo will be.
