I am thinking of our neighbors here in the apartment complex. Many are immigrants. Many we see all the time don't speak much English. At this time in America we are seeing one of the cruelest men in the country trying to end the American dream for many who have innocently come here to make new lives for themselves and their families. There have already been people taken into custody. It's already started. He is getting some push back and I hope all of it is successful.
I may not be able to help these people much but, when my daughter, my grandson or myself come into contact with one of these people out in the world we are going to be extra nice to these folks. They deserve good treatment anyway but alittle extra never hurts.

I have many many immigrant students. I don't know what their legal status is and I don't care. I can only communicate with them via handheld electronic translator. I've used it for Spanish, Ukrainian, Haitian Creole, and Chinese. I really feel for them. The Spanish-speaking ones easily blend in because we have so many students who speak Spanish but the others are pretty isolated. That has to be so hard.

We are all individuals and we function in society in our own way. I think that those who go out into the world each day have an opportunity to be kind to others. Even if it is just smiling at the person across from you on the bus or elevator. Wherever you are look up and smile at someone around you. Say "Hello". Pick up something they dropped. ETC.

I think it’s really wonderful that you’re thinking of your neighbors and planning to show them kindness. It’s tough out there for a lot of people, especially immigrants who are just trying to build a better life. They absolutely deserve compassion, and I love that you and your family are making an effort to be extra kind. Even the smallest act of kindness can make such a big difference. I hope more people follow your lead and stand up for each other during times like these.

Thank you. I hope so too. They deserve it. I can't imagine moving to a new country, not knowing the language---how scary.

@celticeagle I would never be able to move out like that. And hope I would never have to.

Since the majority of us come from other countries ourselves, I am always as welcoming as I can be to any newcomers. When I was given my mother's good china, which was a huge set, I did not need it as I have my own, I reached out to a church and asked if they had a large family that was new to the country just setting up housekeeping. I donated that 16 place setting of Royal Dalton dishes to them, so that they could gather together and have something nice that has a bit of history, and welcoming to it.
I believe that DT is actually of German descent, pity he cannot empathize with others new to North America. Such a pity, and shameful for those who share that sentiment.

How nice to give that family heirloom to a family that would get some use out of it. Yes, German, and Irish. Yes, it is a pity but I think it is the Hitler mentality all over again. If you aren't white you are pond scum. He hasn't hit on the Aryan believe yet but, that could be next. It wouldn't surprise me. I think that having other ethnicities living around us is wonderful. The culture, the stories they have to tell. I can't imagine not being interested in other cultures and such. He is so weird and self-involved. He can't see out of his own psyche.

@Juliaacv ......His mother took sick when he was young and he was left to his father who didn't like him and treated him horribly. His niece, Mary Trump does a podcast that I listen to. She has been very forthcoming about his life and his father. How he was neglected.

@celticeagle I think back to one of my Gramma's favorite sayings.......I am glad that I am not The Maker, therefore I needn't judge.
I think that maybe his Gramma should have taught him such sayings.
We all have to share this planet, we might as well get along.

Well, Biden had a program for some but, yes they do. That doesn't mean we can't be kind to them in the process.

Do you personally know of anyone scooped up?
And so much for that poem on the statue of liberty...

Yes! "The New Colossus". And that reminds me of Ellis Island.
