A 'before' photo

It’s going to be another scorcher today with temperatures really the high 30Cs so over 100F. We went out early and made a start on tidying up the garden that fronts the village street. The circular beds are new. The pickets come in a roll which is 3 metres long. I intend to take some of the soil out of the circular beds, replace it with potting mix and plant something, although I don’t know what yet. I might put a rose-bush in each one which would be easy maintenance but still look nice. The plants outside the circles will probably be removed and that area covered with mulch. We want to use the motor-home as much as possible while we can so we’re looking to make the garden as low maintenance as possible. This is a ‘before’ photo but don’t hold your breath waiting for an ‘after’ one. It will be while coming.

That sounds like a great idea, rose bushes are low maintenance and provide such beautiful blooms so naturally. We did that when we had our son into sports leagues in town and felt like we were running the roads alot to get him here or there.

We might be house-sitting from time to time so best to have something simple.

I love the red and green plants already growing there. Are they something you guys planted or are they wild? Over 100°F eek that’s hot even for me!

We might be away house-sitting too from time to time so don't want anything that takes a lot of looking after.

So hard to believe the other side of our world is in another season - stay cool out there! Low maintenance sounds practical - that works for us. Best of luck with your planting plans!

@JudyEv That's so cool you get these house sitting gigs. Is there a sprinkler system there?

Thanks for the good wishes. We're going to be away for two 5-week periods house-sitting so low maintenance would be ideal.

@much2say Yes, we have automatic watering but we don't like to waste water and sometimes the holes block, etc, etc.

I like those colorful plants by the 3 trees, what are they? Soon we'll be getting those high temps here too. I'm so ready for spring.

This is our own front garden. We'll be away house-sitting on and off from March so I'd just like it looking nice while we're away.

I cannot wait to see the after product. The location of the circular beds are lovely. From what I see in the photo, there are plenty of sun.

Yes, this area gets a lot of sun. I probably won't plant anything till the weather cools off a little.

@id_peace Because we might be away quite a bit I might just put a rose bush in the centre of each circle. I might try to get a perfumed one/two.

The builders dumped their rubble in the garden then covered it with mulch. I want to dig out some of the soil and replace it with good potting mix.

I remember you showing us the red and green succulents a year or two ago. I really like them. Rose bushes are very low maintenance and look good whether they are in bloom or not. I'm sure your flower bed will look really nice when you guys get done with it.

@JudyEv Yeah, some rose bushes struggle in the heat and won't bloom until the weather starts cooling off. I hope you find some that you love.

I probably need to wait till the weather is a bit cooler if I'm going to put rose bushes in there. I might get ones that have a nice perfume.

I've got a similar circular ring I put around my beach plum bushes. They make nice holders for soil. May you have good luck and good times in the garden!

Oh high temperatures can be pretty testing. I hope the watering needs of your plants would be taken care of. It is essential to keep the cost of maintenance for gardens in an affordable and doable range especially when there is a time constraint.
