I'm Confused.

I really don't know who to believe, what to eat what not to eat. Whatever happened to an apple a day keeps the doctor away ? For some time now l have been hearing some health experts say that fructose from fruits high in sugar could lead to liver disease . All my life l have been told that fruits and vegetables are good for you ( no problem with vegetables) but what about fruits? Who to believe? What should we tell our children and grandchildren? Any Nutritionists on mylot? What do you think? Pixabay image.

Anything fresh, fruit or vegetables, are good for you. It's not a actually fruit or vegetables, it's the pesticides that's the problem.

That too. Pesticides pose a problem with vegetables as well as fruits.

Well, eating one apple a day isn't overloading your live, I am sure. Fruits and veggies are low calorie and filled with nutrients so I will continue to eat them. The health experts sound like quacks.

I get just as confused as you do. One day something is good for you and the next it's not. I try to limit my fruits that are higher in sugar and eat more of those that are lower. I don't necessarily cut out any fruit because I really like fruit. I hope you get some professional answers here as it would be very interesting to see what a nutritionists opinion is.

I cut down on sugar as much as possible. Now I am hearing that mangoes - which are among my favorite seasonal fruits - have about 22 grams of sugar, wow!

Well, I know bananas have a very high amount of sugar so I stay away from them. But really, a healthy person with no medical issues just has to make sure they don’t overeat the recommended fruit amount a day. If people do that, they shouldn’t have too many problems. However, if one is diabetic, they just have to remember bananas and watermelon have a high sugar content so be careful. If we all kept to the recommended lean protein, a few fruits, and several veggies a day, we wouldn’t have to worry too much about specific fruits. That’s what my nurse practitioner told me anyway. (I don’t have diabetes, but my dad does.)

I must admit , with some fruits it is hard sticking to the recommended amount - especially when the fruit grows in your own backyard and you remember the saying " waste not , want not". Of course you are perfectly right - moderation is key - especially when you are dealing with certain health issues....

I think fruits and vegetables are healthy. Maybe for some people they have a health issue and can’t have them but I’m sure for most people they are good for us.

I am of the opinion that what many of those Nutritionists do not tell us is that fruits high in sugar are harmful only if you eat to much of them and of course they do not tell us how much is a safe amount.

I suggest moderation in everything we eat. Over consumption of 1 or 2 fruits , beverages etc cannot result in good health.

I agree with you and other myLoters that moderation is the best idea. Nothing in excess is usually a good idea. We just need to be sure to wash all fruits and veggies very well.

I would think that would point to excess fruit per day. One or two fruits a day should be fine. Five or more, not so much.

Agreed. It also depends on the kind of fruits - the extra sweet ones may cause problems ,especially for those persons with health issues.

I think it is depends on your health already. Some people are born with allergies and intolerance to some fruits and foods, so I think it is still depends on the health of a person. Sometimes, what is should be healthy to a person becomes unhealthy also because of their negligence when they are young. I hope I am not one of them, talking about my sugar intake, but last time I checked its still normal.

I have come to believe it doesn't matter what you eat, someone will always tell you it's not good for you and will kill you. I'm old school. A balanced diet wins every time. I stopped listening to the nay-sayers about foods that used to be good for you no longer are. I eat healthy and I'm enjoying what I eat. Don't worry about it. Eat an apple a day.

A doctor recently asked my father not to drink milk before going to bed. My father is now over eighty and he has been drinking milk right before sleeping since when he was young. I'm also confused what to eat and drink..
