While I prepare to head out for the day I’ll pause for a moment to give you another one of the greats we lost in 2024. I’m surprised that some of these sneaked in under the radar, based on the “I didn’t know” comments left. This one did NOT “sneak in,” because this was literally the voice of a generation. #3: James Earl Jones That beautiful speech about baseball in Field of Dreams, to me, tops anything. The “This is CNN.” The “Luke, I am your father.” The EGOT. That speech is perfection about baseball, and the shining example of why James Earl Jones’ voice was pure butter. Here’s a little trivia for you: his father was also an actor. I was watching an old episode of Lou Grant on YouTube last month, when who shows up but Robert Earl Jones? (The episode is “Renewal,” if you want to take a peek.) Nothing “trivial” about James Earl Jones, though. Who do you want to narrate your life? The choice is usually Jones or Morgan Freeman. (I’d personally like that, but Daffy Duck would be more appropriate for me. ) Ooh, that voice. The world just sounds different without him. James Earl Jones Born January 17, 1931, Arkabutla, Mississippi Died September 9, 2024, Pawkling, New York (natural causes) (age 93) HALL OF FAME: American Theater EGO*T winner (*Honorary Oscar) The “baseball is what’s good about America” speech from Field of Dreams.

Yeah, that voice, I love it. His acting was really good as well, sadly I can't recall the name of the show I was watching, dadblastit.

He was in a lot of shows and movies. He made fun of himself on Letterman doing a top ten list of things that sound cool when James Earl Jones says them.”

I didn’t know it, either, until I watched that episode of Lou Grant.

@FourWalls Funny thing is whenever I see Darth Vader, I think it's James Earl Jones inside the costume!

I think that’s where most of us first saw and heard of him…in Star Wars we only heard him.

I know. He said that, as a Christian, narrating the New Testament was his favorite voice role.

I would have not known him so well if this was the post some time back..but I happened to read about him recently on one of the social media platforms, where a fan had penned down his great career as an actor. He also mentioned that he was a pre med before coming to acting world. And he also served US army during the Korean war.

I wish he had been on an incarnation of What’s My Line as the mystery guest, trying to disguise THAT voice.
