Catch Up Time: My First Florida State Park This Trip

If you’re keeping track, I’m up to four state parks in Florida (five total because Fort Morgan is a state park in Alabama). The first state park in Florida I hit was Big Lagoon State Park.
Ooh, was that pretty.
The photo on the right was taken along the boardwalk that led from the parking lot to the campground area. It passes the namesake lagoon (and no, it’s not that “big”, but it is pretty), and a couple of other water overpasses along the way (one was very green, which is probably the result of pollen or some other plant life). The walk wasn’t long, less than half a mile round trip, but it certainly was beautiful.
A man along the way said there’s an alligator who hangs out in the lagoon. I didn’t see the alligator in question. As far as I’m concerned, he can have the entire lagoon.
On the left is the other side of the parking lot: more water (gee, what’s with all this water in this area?
). You can see a couple of trees that have borne the brunt of a hurricane or four.
I had a great walk, enjoying the beauty of the lagoon and the surrounding natural area.

That is probably it.
Yes, it was very relaxing, and not very busy.

That’s why I’m camping in a Holiday Inn.
Gators, snakes, bears, coyotes…nope, I’ll camp in room 107.

My daughter's and I actually did a girls camping trip in the Pensacola area. I had reserved a room, but when we stopped to check in, the area gave me the creepies. So I canceled and we went and bought a tent and sleeping bags! Called my husband to tell him we had a change of plans and he laughed and said we would never get the tent up. It went up in record time!

@kareng — I have a setup in the back of my car where I can sleep in it in the event of an “emergency” (such as bad or no hotel, roads closed due to weather or accidents, etc.). Beats a tent.

I think thee are over 120 state parks in Florida. I saw ten of them two years ago, and I’ve done four so far this year.

This is such a fun thing to do, plus you can go at your own pace and enjoy the sites.

It’s taken me nearly a week to get to Tallahassee. I am enjoying things at my own pace, for certain!

That's the best way to truly enjoy a trip, and get to see just what you want to see. If you find a place you want to spend more time in, you can do that. It sounds just wonderful, I am following your adventures, even if I am very hit and miss in here!

I’ll bet it’ll be packed in a month with Spring Break kids, but yes, it was perfect for a nice, quiet morning walk.
