So much for Trump's tariffs

Mr. Tough Guy threatened 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada because. . . he is dumb. He doesn't understand how they work and has said for years that other countries pay the tariffs. That of course is not how it works but no one has ever accused Trump of being intelligent.
Canada has been vocal about hitting back at US tariffs. I started seeing commercials promoting Ontario as a US trading partner on CNN at least a week ago. Yesterday they (Ontario) announced that they were terminating their contract with Elmo's Starlink. Today they said that they would not do business with American companies as long as Trump's tariffs were in place. Mexico also was making noise about retaliating against US tariffs.
Well with just hours before they were to take effect Trump paused them for both countries for at least a month. He backed right down after seeing the stock markets totally crash and that Mexico and Canada weren't going to just sit back and take it. US voters also were up in arms about further price increases and upset because that is exactly the opposite of why they voted for him.
Many people have been saying it for years--Trump is a sissy. He loves to talk a big game to make his MAGA cult think that he is some tough strongman but the reality is that he needs to be challenged straight back. Most of the time he will back right down. Look at what happened today. There's the proof.

Yes, I think the only way to take a bully down is to stand up to them. It has only taken two weeks for Trump to create a mega mess. Come on Midterms.

Don’t forget, there are a number of special elections that have to happen because of all the elected officials he pulled out of Congress. I don’t honestly look for it to happen, but control of Congress could flip just in special elections before the midterms.

@FourWalls Yeah, and they suggest some districts may flip Democratic. I hope so. It might help save our country.

@snowy22315 One can only hope. The NY Senate seat vacated by Stefanik will likely be replaced by a Democrat.

It was the stock market's reaction that mad him change his mind--the stock market is about the only thing he cares about outside himself--

@NJChicaa Right now, I am more concerned about Musk's takeover of the Treasury payment system--that is a coup and we are in the middle of a constitutional crisis--

He did not pause them due to the stock market. Who in the world was the idiot who told you that? Trump doesn't understand tariffs and how they work? Who was the idiot who told you THAT? Clearly, YOU don't know how these things work. Granted, I will give you that WE pay the tariffs. BUT, your side has LONG advocated for higher corporate taxes. Well, let's put our thinking caps on here for a sec, shall we?
Who pays for higher corporate taxes? WE do. Why? Because businesses DO NOT PAY TAXES. What they DO is COLLECT them from US when we buy their goods and services to write the check to the IRS. So, why complain about tariffs and the cost it poses to consumers when what your side wants DOES EXACTLY THE SAME THING?
Oh wait. Because it's Trump's idea to do it. I get it. Makes perfect sense. Why rationalize? Just put Trump's name on it and suddenly it has to be opposed and ridiculed and called lame.
Like secure borders. It was ALWAYS a Democrat idea to SECURE THE BORDER and keep illegals out. It was the Republicans who wanted cheap Mexican labor...remember? Party of the rich? All that jazz? Big fat cats who wanted to pay pennies on the dollar for brown people from the South?
Trump made it a campaign issue and suddenly the Democrats wanted open borders? WHAT? And suddenly a secure border was racist when Democrats were always for it until Trump came along and won on it in 2016? Give me a break.
The reason Trump is threatening tariffs is because he WANTS something, and tariffs are a good way to go to the negotiating table and offer a reason to make concessions on our demands. In Mexico we wanted help on the border and to fight against the cartels. Looks like Mexico is caving in to that. Tariffs paused. We want the same assistance on the Northern border with Canada as well as fairer trade deals. Canada might flex a bit, tariffs paused. In the case of Columbia they met ALL of our demands. Tariffs CANCELLED.
I think what you would be wise to do is to set aside your insane hatred for Trump, put on your thinking cap, and see the forest for the trees before jumping to wildly crazy theories that make you sound like a lunatic at worst, terribly misinformed at best.

I really hate that you are always "your side" vs "my side". We are all Americans.
Guarantee that Trump doesn't understand tariffs. He claims that it is other countries "pouring in billions of dollars". Don't forget that one of his professors at the Wharton School of Business at UPenn said that Trump was the stupidest student he ever had. Not really surprising when he had to pay someone to take the SATs for him. This is also the same person who doesn't know the difference from a mental asylum and political asylum.

He should start with halting supply of armaments to the world.
That will usher in peace and stop wars.
Trade is not a one way street. Everyone benefits like with peace.
He took a blinkered view.
Trump's rhetoric sounds sweet to a few but following up that mindlessly will impoverish the world at large.
