The photo shows a pastie cutter which was in the Collie Museum. The photograph doesn’t really show that the metal is concave. There are two identical pieces back to back. I gather you rolled it along big sheet of pastry and you’d end up with identical-size circles. You’d add the filling, fold them over, crimp the edges and they’d be ready for the oven. When my mother made pasties, instead of crimping them, she’d use a fork or tip of a spoon to mark the edge.

I wonder what is a pastie? We do not have that in our region here.

@JudyEv Ah yes pie. I realised that I have this too. We have it sold as curry puff in our homeland.

@id_peace They sometimes have different names depending on the filling.

Do you have pies there? Pies are round and made of pastry with a filling of some sort, often meat, but you can have fruit pies such as apple or apricot. A pastie starts off with a circle of pastry but then you fold it over the filling so it's a half-circle. Edit: Sorry I didn't get this posted yesterday.

When I was young a pastie didn't have meat in it. Is that your thinking too?

@RebeccasFarm I think pasties might have originated in Cornwall.

I don't do any kind of baking like cakes & stuff but I do remember when other people I know that did, just never took up cooking or baking stuff.

Vince cooks nearly all our meals but I used to do the cooking. I still do some and I bake occasionally.

Looks like an interesting gadget. May be there are some videos on using it. Great that a Museum also preserves such heritage stuff as well.

It would all be done by machines now but back then this was probably a very handy thing to have.

It would all be automated now I guess. My Mum would use a plate of the desired size.

I couldn't capture the concave shape in the photo. I guess now cutting the shapes would all be automated.

Pasties are so tasty. I used to know an English lady who made sausage rolls for her church.
