I'm furious with Burger King

Dale and I had doctors' appointments yesterday in Greenville. We haven't eaten at a Burger King in a really long time (they're rather unclean here), but we hoped this one in another town might be good.
Wrong. We ordered a whopper combo with fries and a Coke and a whopper Jr combo with fries and a Coke.
$17. That might not be a lot for some of you who live in more expensive places, but for here, it was awful.
Then the burger patties were so thin, you could almost see through them. The fries were in tiny boxes and I know there were no more than seven or eight fries per box.
Even the Cokes were a small size. And the food was cold.
But to add insult to injury, they didn't even taste charcoal grilled. That's the only reason we went there. If we hadn't gone through the drive through, I'd have taken it all back.
We spent less than that for a really good meal at a local Mexican restaurant recently. And for five dollars more we could have eaten at our favorite large Hibachi buffet.
But live and learn and never go to Burger King again.

Wow, my husband and I hadn’t ate at Burger king in years and about a month ago we had a very aggravating experience too.

It's such a shame...I love that charcoal flavor.

@1creekgirl I do too. The closest thing to it, although it's charbroiled, is Hardees. Overall their food is better, although they are typically more expensive than Burger King.

I don't know what's with the bk's where you live. Because.... we don't have that problem here.

@porwest I think me living in a popular turist/college town is motivation for them to care here. Most of their sales are likely college kids or tourists. People who would cost them a lot of money in business because they are more vocal online.

Maybe where you live, but not in rural eastern NC.

@1creekgirl I am not a fan of generic America. I will pay more when I can get a burger from a Mom and Pop burger joint.

@NJChicaa Wow, that really is a high cost of living there. When I went to NYC a few years ago on a Mother's Day trip with our daughter and granddaughter, I was shocked how much more expensive things were there than in NC.

@1creekgirl Yes. I read an article yesterday about how far $100,000 will go in various states. I think after taxes and whatever else it worked out to only be like $60,000. I make $93,300 this year and I certainly am not living high on the hog. I can pay the bills and get the food/candles/cookbooks that I like but I am not living the large life. There is a reason why I take so many class coverages and homebound tutoring assignments.

Our Burger King here is very good. There is only one left. All the rest have been closed. I'm sorry you had such a bad experience. Have a terrific day.

@1creekgirl Had a good day. Handed off a bunch of paperwork to a lawyer for him to handle. Takes some of the pressure off.

I am no fan of fast food...but our Burger Kings are rated horribly, and I am constantly hearing how terrible different people say that it is. They never have help. Or the help doesn't show up. Sometimes they are out of things like cheese, French fries, pickles...and the health department is always shutting one down and making them clean up. I'm sorry you had such a bad meal. I would imagine a lot of these places are going to end up closing down, you cannot serve food like you describe and stay in business very long.

We would never go to the one here, it's nasty, but I had hoped after not eating in one in years, that one might be better.

I think many fast food places have reached their peak and they are going down. People do not want to spend massive amounts of money for a bad meal, whether it's fast food or a regular restaurant.

I really like Burger King in our area—the patties just taste better compared to other burger places around. There’s something about that flame-grilled flavor that really stands out. I just hope the BK in your area steps up and maintains the quality that the brand is known for. It’s always a letdown when a good fast-food chain doesn’t live up to expectations because of inconsistencies from one location to another. Hopefully, they reform their ways and give customers the quality they deserve!

@1creekgirl It may be just an isolated case. Have you brought it up to their attention? Maybe they need your feedback on that.

@rsa101 Good advice, but I suspect their problems come from lack of good franchise owners.

I haven't been to Burger King in 5 years. The last time we went, I wanted to try their veggie burger. It was not bad.

Burger King is one of those fast food places that continually struggles to "catch on." I think part of their issue is that they are missing the two key points hurting their business. Quality and service and store appearance. Part of THAT comes from allowing corporations to own too many restaurants and they don't have enough quality control over their franchisees.
I am not sure it will ever be fixed, but it's an ongoing problem that NEEDS to be fixed. We've had a couple of stores here close recently.

I was at Burger King maybe a month and a half ago. It was way too expensive and not that good. We could have gone to a better place.

I know exactly what you mean. There are sit down places that are the same prices almost and have much better food.
