My Dad's Area Got Drowned

Even where I live, in an Illinois city close to St. Louis, Missouri about 20 minutes away of about 65,000 people, we are prone to flooding (although in the 11 years I have been here we personally have not experienced anything major).
We're surrounded by rivers with the Kaskaskia close by, the Mississippi of course, and the Illinois River.
Many areas have flood gates such as along Route 4 and Route 3 that often close roadways for several days, which can be a pain since of course, you have to find alternative routes to take to get to certain places.
My dad lives in Portageville, Missouri, about 3 hours south of us and they got pummeled with torrential rain and now are largely under water in most of the area. I watched a video someone posted on YouTube using a drone and can't even imagine having to deal with that.
Dad is safe, though, and luckily, no water has entered his house, but it's still very much flooded all around him. He can't get anywhere as the water is too high to go anywhere in the specific location where he's at.
What a mess.

I’m betting I can’t walk out to Tower Rock now!
They’re using words like “historic,” “generational,” and “catastrophic” to describe our flooding. They canceled Thunder Over Louisville because of it, so when the “big event” before the Derby gets nixed you know it’s bad.

I'm glad your dad is still safe. You might have to take him some groceries once in a while, though.

@DaddyEvil lol. I don't want one either. I have enough to deal with with the camper.

This is another reason I am not a fan of springtime. Between the tornadoes and torrential flooding, large swaths of the central and southern US are always negatively affected this time each year. I'm sorry this happened in your dad's area, but glad to hear he's okay and not too negatively affected.

@porwest I guess it just becomes a part of life when it's something that happens regularly in the area you live. A sort of comparison would be our deluge of afternoon thunderstorms in Florida in the summer. It's a pain in the butt, but you just get used to it and deal with it. Hurricanes are another example.

@moffittjc We have a couple areas where we have flood doors, so several roads get shut down, and you have to find alternatives often. Yeah, you get used to that.

@porwest I know.
Can´t firemen bring the people to a safe place? You could have him at your home for some time.

Your Dad must be at a slightly higher level than others there.

@garymarsh6 Luckily he was high enough he didn't experience that. But yeah, water can do a lot of damage.
