Have you ever seen the Northern Lights?

Yesterday, a friend of mine described an airplane trip to Ireland where they were engulfed by the Northern Lights. It sounded like a fantastic experience. I have seen the Northern Lights a few times, mostly in Montana. It is an "other-worldly" experience to me, and generally fills me with joy. Have you seen the Northern (or Southern) Lights?

@LadyDuck I'd have to check your Latitude. You were not very far North.

@TheHorse I lived about 2 hundred km further North in Alberta. My bedroom window faced North. But people not far from where I am have seen them this winter, so it seems I just kept missing them.

Nope... We live too far South for them to be visible here. Of course, I've seen photos online of the Northern Lights. They look beautiful and I wish we could see them first-hand.

@TheHorse When they were supposed to be visible this last fall/winter in Missouri, we walked down the street to get away from all the trees, hoping to see them but never did.

I've seen the southern lights but how incredible for the lights to be surrounding a plane! Hard to believe really.

My friend who told me about it is a physicist and said you are actually exposed to "radiation" when you're "in" the Northern (or Southern) Lights. I'm gonna have to research it!

@TheHorse There is always a downside to some of these wonderful events, isn't there?

Yes, for 7 years we lived right on Lake Erie and saw the northern lights one evening. It was so weird!!!

For me it's kind of a "Yes, there is a God" experience. I always enjoy it.

@TheHorse Yup. There are so many amazing things in this world that couldn't just be "by chance".

I haven't seen it before. In my place it shall not be possible to see it. Perhaps one day I will have a chance to see it on my travel.

Yeppers. I suppose one would have to go pretty far North or South to experience the Lights regularly.

That would be so cool. I saw them one night right here in Boise, Idaho. I'm going to go right now and write a post about that night. I think it is rather funny. I hope you'll come over and read it.

Yes The Northern Lights are quite a common sight in Scotland. We have many Dark Sky areas which also helps make the displays brighter or at least that's what I was told.
