It looks like I will have to fly out of Washington

It just is tooexpensive to fly from one smaller market to another. I was hoping to fly out of Richmond which is a really nice airport up to PA .but it is like twice the price of flying from Reagan airport very close to Washington DC.. That would be OK..really because it is a short metro ride from friend's house where I will park. Although it didn't use to extend that far the metro also extends to Dulles airport to the West, but that airport is quite a bit larger than the one in Arlington. I have flown out of RIC a couple of times, but this trip will have to be budget

@GardenGerty well it isn't new, just new to me. For the most part it is fine, but it will kind of hesitate or lurch once in awhile. When I take it for an oil change I will have the transmission fluid checked and the fuel Filte r it was a an older guy"s car and he took good care of it

Ideally, I would have wanted to drive my new car up there, but it acts up at times. I don't want any problems up there.

I find it hard to work out why some airfares are what they are. We can fly to Bali for less than it would cost to fly to Melbourne to see our son.

Isn't that nuts? I know, have your son visit Bali, and visit with him there

@snowy22315 Bali is 1627 kms from Perth and Melbourne is 3418 kms which explains it I guess.

No, I am flying to see relatives. A market is what aarea an airport serves. It is just a different way of saying metro area.

For what I can remember the Dulles airport was not too bad, not one of those very big airports that are a real nightmare.

It's quite large, although not as big as some I am sure. All the flights I have looked at include a layover in Charlotte. Nothing really to do there. I wish it would lay over in Pittsburgh. That airport has a nice shopping area within it. You can be entertained while waiting for your flight.

@LadyDuck Nope..One time many years ago when NW airlines was still around I got a layover in Detroit. That airport is kind of interesting.

@snowy22315 A friend of mine told me that Charlotte airport is not bad, but there is nothing at all.

Yes the fare pricing can be something to wonder about. Because of botched privatization, it is cheaper to fly from London to Scotland than take a train

Hmm, The cheapest way is the bus, but that takes hours and hours. Not worth it for a short trip.

That is how it is in Louisiana. Fly out of Baton Rouge where we lived was always 2 x the price of flying out of New Orleans an hour and half away.

I haven't flown in a long time. I am looking forward to it You need a real ID though, at least you are supposed to have it when you fly, so I will need to get that.

@snowy22315 I understand and thank you for sharing your opinion! I'm more of the type that when I have to travel anywhere, I research things thoroughly before making a decision.
