Being here has been sketchy.

The last I posted I thought we were past the bugs on the site, then "bam"." It seems the site is having trouble try again later." I was not available later.
So in my last discussion I said I had an idea for a post, and I still do.
One day this week our second grade students presented a "Living Museum of Famous Americans". The kids wore costumes, made posters, AND read from a script. This is an annual event. In the past the kids did their own research. Evidently that was not true this year. My coworker and I suspect that teachers did the research using ChatGPT, which you can read online that it is inaccurate with sometimes made up stuff.
I thought the kids had researched and I asked my lead why the teachers did not proof read the scripts and fact check the posters. . . I was disturbed because the kid portraying Bill Gates said he was dead, having died at 94 years old. Bill Gates is very much alive and was born in 1955.
My coworker, Bre, who does more online than I do, is the one that said it is AI info. There was an error in her student's facts as well. She brought up and read that "ChatGpt " can have errors and even be made up information.
Neither Bre nor I will rock the boat, but we are hoping that our lead teacher, who was listening to our discussion will bring it up at a staff meeting. If our students are going to be taught to use AI they also need to fact check.
The living museum is a cute idea but I also saw some things that concerned me besides the errors. The kids did not pick their own persons, the teachers did. I felt that there was some stereotyping going on, for instance Pocahontas was given to a little girl of possibly Mexican or Native American descent. She was adorable, but what if she had wanted to report on Amelia Earhart? What if a little blue-eyed blonde girl wanted to be Pocahontas?
Maybe I am just grumpy.

I do not think they got to choose. From what little I know the teachers did sort of type cast. . . the student from our room (think autistic, adhd) loves swimming passionately and they had him present about Mark Phelps. Bre helped him with his poster and wrote out his script in large black letters on note cards. She helped him stay focused by sitting on a yoga ball.

The living museum idea is great but I agree with you the kids should pick who the want to represent,

The bottomingline seems to be that cheating in any way just doesn't pay. We really need to get this through to the president don't we?

I agree with you that the kids should pick and research themselves

I don't think you are grumpy at all. I'm sure stereotyping of this sort goes on all the time. It's hard to guard against it.

myLot kicked me out several times today. I finally gave up around 2 pm and went to sleep.
I hope your lead teacher does bring up the AI written "facts"... Some of those kids will remember those reports for years until they check the real facts for themselves, if they ever do.
