How much internet data do you use every month

May 5, 2025 8:59am CST
The question is how much internet data do you use every month? And also when a provider says unlimited do they really mean it is unlimited. Yvonne and I both use a provider called Smarty and as far as I can tell my package is unlimited, and it seems to mean unlimited. I looked to see if there is a small print with " fair usage" mentioned anywhere But there isn't So it means Unlimited date Unlimited tethering via usb or hotspot Unlimited calls Unlimited texts My record for a month was 320Gb of Data 1209 minutes of calls And 3020 texts. Of the 320GB - 300 GB was hotspot tethered. We don't have home broadband and use the phone hotspot for laptop and smart TV. The cost is £20 monthly Sounds alright, doesn't it.

I can use 2 GB everyday; but I don't use that much. I lack time I spend most of my free time on mylot and on Sanskrit learning videos. It costs me just around 400+ rupees or around 3.55 USD for it.

@Ineeddentures No; I'm not a nylot addict. Of course; I come here everyday; but spend a little time here. I don't want to expose my eyes to screen for hours. Most of my screen time is spent on learning Sanskrit.

@Shivram59 I have not really had the time to be here very much of late. Is Sanskrit quite easy to learn?

I think you don't have a home broadband, that's why your usage was that high - 320 GB, out of which nearly 300 GB was spent for watching TV, I guess. Anyway, I never reached that far. May be mine was 100 GB at the most. But that was only for one laptop. No other device apart from that. And these 100 GB came along with my daily work of article writing. So I always feel, I used more than what I mostly do. £20 for one month makes it around ?2300. But you are getting truly unlimited data, unlimited calls, etc. So I bet you have got quite an excellent deal. But have you checked and compared other data plans of other providers?

@Ineeddentures OMG... You are using GBs and GBs of data. For God's sake, spare something for me, or the whole data of the entire world would soon get over Seems like data is cheaper there than what it is here. But I didn't compare. Just assuming.

@abhi_bangal Data should be cheap. It costs absolutely nothing to send over the networks. I do use a lot , but that's why people here buy unlimited packages

We don't have home broadband. The phone hotspot is so much easier. And cheaper. I have checked and compared every deal out there. I even got my wife 200GB data and unlimited calls and texts for £12 per month

Mine is unlimited. I don't"t worry about how much I use for Internet, TV or phone. I am glad those days are over about stressing over data

@Ineeddentures I used to run out of internet often when I had satellite, and the first company I had would slow down your data so much after that it was unusable.

I know what you mean lol I recall making phone calls and stressing if I got put on hold that I would run out of what was very expensive call time

@snowy22315 Yes indeed. When they throttled it here it was almost as slow as the old dial up

Do you ever use the 2GB in a single day?

@allknowing It really does demonstrate how differently you and I use the internet. I can use 2GB in an hour.

Sounds great to me. I have no idea what we use but it's supposed to be unlimited and so far it's all hunky dory. Not sure where hunky dory came from suddenly but there you go.

I have no idea how much Internet data we use every month. We have home broadband with unlimited data. My husband, my kids and I are online most of the time, and we play video games too, so I suppose we use quite a lot of data. I think £20 for unlimtied "everything" is a good deal. Our unlimited data is just for the home broadband, it's around USD$33 per month. For mobile data, we pay separately, but not unlimited data, and only 5GB for hotspot, though we can make unlimited calls.

Only 5GB for a HotSpot isn't that bad when you have wi fi at home with unlimited data. I think the deal we get must be about the best in the UK.

Since my internet speed is only 10mbps right now, then it is possible that every minute I use 10x60=600 megabytes. So in a month it could be more than 100GB.

Of course, 10 mega gets per second multiplied by 60 seconds. I had never thought to calculate my usage like that To be fair though my internet isn't the most stable and sometimes speeds do drop away a lot so it's difficult to guage

As long as it's unlimited it means we can do what we want without fear of getting cut off or having to buy an add on

Unlimited is the best deal to get. You never know when you might want to binge watch a box set of movies. My internet provider app tells me how much I use but I have no idea why they do that when it's unlimited

Thats a lotta data usage. I have broadband and I rarely use my phone for internet connections. So far I've managed to use .9 gigs in one month but that was over a year ago, since then I've stayed well below .5 gigs.

I noticed that watching High Definition Movies gobbles up the data. One movie can be 5GB. Broadband is so expensive and before we get that we would have to rent the phone line also. So I think we will keep using the cell phones for our internet

I pay almost the same amount Php1500 (USD27.00) and I have unlimited internet. Phones, laptops, and TV are all connected to the wifi. I don't know how much GB we consume but I am satisfied with the service. We are 3 at the house and we are all working online.

Prices have really come down a lot here recently as companies and providers compete to get our business. Use of phone hotspots is replacing home broadband here quite a lot. People pay about £20 here per month just to rent a phone line. You get a really good deal.

@Ineeddentures Yes, it is indeed a good deal. Competition in business helps a lot in having a good service at a lower cost. Consumers benefited the most when there is competition.

@ARIES1973 Competition is good. A monopoly just lets the powerful company increase prices for us all.

Sounds like a good deal. Ours is $50 ish per month. It's unlimited, but that's the cheapest package and we could find it too slow if we were games or some such. It seems fine for us. I have no idea how much we use.

Speed is important. My hotspot is only quick enough to connect to the smart TV or lap top but only one device at a time. Gaming at a decent level is possible but only using the phone I could get home broadband with a speed of 36mb/s at £20 per month but would be tied to a 2 year contract

The best we can get is not truly unlimited. It slows way down after we use so much

Ah yes I wondered if that happened with this deal I get as it does seem to slow down a bit but maybe that's just my paranoia. Only used 19GB so far in May as I have been really busy so it hasn't slowed down quite yet

I do all of my Internet work on my laptop or my desktop PC. I am online many hours each day. The Internet is provided by AT&T and I have WiFir this amount is included in my rent,

Wi Fi included in the rent is a great idea. I am not online all that much Most of the data I use is used watching films and sports.
