I got to talk to Horse Jr. today. He is sixteen now, the same age as both my Nissan Xterra and my Chevy Silverado, and one Year older than Kate, my star guitar student.
He tricked me by pretending to an "extended warranty salesman." Clever boy. He got it from me.
He is doing well in school, but has to take those State exams required to make sure schools are teaching well.
He and his girlfriend have "split up," as they only got to see each other once every three months or so, and were only texting now an then. Man , how things have changed.
I would like to see him go to College, but he is not sure that he is interested in studying history, or poetry, or even math. What is a fella to do?
I am glad I got to speak with him.

@marguicha I think we old-timers are sometimes taken for granted. But his time will come.

I'm glad you got to visit with him, too, And pretending he's an insurance salesman is really funny! I'm glad he convinced you to buy the extended warranty.
I'm sure he'll have another girlfriend before too long. And yes, I find the "mating customs" of our younger generations very odd... But, I can also see their point on several things, too.
I was hoping he'd go to college, too... He might change his mind. Most young people don't know what they want at 16 years old.

@DaddyEvil I have noticed that Trump had/has a lot of support among non-Latino immigrants who do not speak or read English that well. Many came from Eastern Europe.

One of our happiness as parents is at least being able to talk with our children. Glad you got to speak with him.

That was so wonderful to have a conversation with him! Youngins don't realize how much we need to hear from them.

@TheHorse I know our kids love us and do stay connected, but they have busy lives. They think we're going to live forever.

I know a few in the US who are of the same age and facing similar challenges preparing to get to college and select subjects that catch their fancy.
Some are more worried than them (talk of Tiger Moms), but I left it entirely to my son though I did help financially to complete his post graduate study. I did not want to live vicariously through my son like some who get carried away.

I'm glad you and Horse Jr. had an opportunity to connect. If he doesn't want to go to college, what interests does he have?

I am glad he called you. It sounds like you enjoyed that very much.
He will no doubt change his mind about college back and forth several times. While I agree college isn't for everyone, an option would be a trade school of some sort, as we do really need our tradesmen!
