Wood Oven vs Gas Stove

Like any loner in a rural area, I prefer to cook my meals rather than eat in a restaurant. Eating at home is cheaper, the food is fresh and clean. So, unless I have travelled far in which case meal time finds me far from home, I prefer to cook my own food. I have a wood oven which utilizes firewood, most of which I collect by cutting off tree branches and laying aside to dry. These are plenty and almost inexhaustible since I have so many trees. I also have a gas system; a 6kg cylinder complete with a grill and burner. Refilling it is Ksh 1200 (about USD10). A 6kg gas cylinder lasts two to two and a half months when used to cook light meals and almost half the period when used to prepare foods that take longer to cook. I prefer the wood oven since after cooking, it retains heat which I can use for warming water for showering. It as well keeps the house warm. What kind of fuel do you use to cook regularly?

You have quite a setup. I don't care for gas. We live in an all electric apartment. I had a series of bad experience with gas when I was younger so I don't use if I don't have to. I think it really depends on what you are cooking. Some things need to be cooked faster or more controlled, so gas or electric would be good. But, bread and pizza, those types of things do well in the wooden one.

We have a couple of gas cookers. One of my friends in a very small village burns wood to cook. He has his own fields. He needn't buy rice or wheat or even vegetables from the market. Everything comes fresh from his own fields. He has a small family comprising of only four members.

You are right,. Electricity is also a green form of energy, so the environment is safe.

Great to know that. I hope you get gas to supplement the convection stove

@SIDIKIMPOLE The convenction stove is 100% electric. Gas is no more allowed in apartment buildings here in Italy.

I prefer eating at home because that's how I stay healthy otherwise fast food gives me digestion issues.

Food prepared at home is usually fresh and clean. Some fast foods are not clean and not fully cooked..
