So, I went out to do my steps and started smelling smoke..so I round the bend and I see a huge pile of brush burning onthe property of the people who live down the hill. It was starting to get a bit windy.I thought don't tell me they just left like that, but eventually I saw a truck up there by the pile. However, when imI was walking back I noticed the truck driving away..Granted it was smoldering and we are expecting heavy rain shortly..but still..not smart and probably not even legal I'm tempted to call the fire department honestly However, I guess the rain will put it out. I will be watching these people though. They don't have the best judgment, and would hate to see houses or even trees burning due to their carelessness.

Yeah, and it was next to the woods. It could have caught a neighboring tree on fire and then there would be trouble.

@LadyDuck I mean have they ever heard of spontaneous combustion? Just because something appears to be out, doesn't mean it can't catch again. It was quite a bit of smoke, it wasn't just a trace.

That’s really frustrating—and honestly, pretty reckless on their part. Even if rain is expected, leaving a smoldering pile unattended, especially with wind picking up, is asking for trouble. It shows a serious lack of judgment and concern for everyone else’s safety. I’d be just as upset—watching them closely sounds like a smart move.

@snowy22315 I recalled that my brother-in-law had burned dried leaves in his lawn while I was in Rockland, New York, visiting my sister. The police came to our house to warn us to put out the fire after someone reported us after they noticed the smoke spreading. The fire was fairly contained because the fireplace was protected by bricks.

Yes, I plan to, although not sure how much burning they will be doing the rest of this week as everything will be soaked.

Yeah, if you are gonna burn the least you can do is make sure the fire is completely out before you go trotting away.

That is terrible that a neighbor would be so careless to allow a brush fire on their property.

They were clearing land. It's done on a routine basis, but not driving away from it

Aye.
They maybe are not playing with a full deck.
I hope the rain does put the fire out.

It should. If I see them burning brush unattended again though, I am gonna call the fire department

@snowy22315
That's what I would do.
They wouldn't be doing it again.

That would be quite concerning. You do not want unattended fires.

Yeah, I am going to keep an eye on them. They probably won't be burning for awhile though .it will be too wet.

If I see them doing this again, the fire dept. is definitely going to be called. It is not right to put everyone else's environment at risk.

One of our neighbors caught the woods on fire a few years back. It was a rip roaring fire and we had several fire trucks come. He is always doing dumb and dangerous things.

Geez, that is what I am afraid of. They don't have the best judgment..and have really been a pain in the butt here. Their pond looks like a big mud puddle.

You aren't ever supposed to leave a fire unattended. I mean the fire may have actually been out, but still the way it was smoldering something probably would be going on.

Some people can afford to be callous and don't bother about other people's properties.
