Spaghetti sauce do you make your own, or buy it in a jar?

I am guessing the majority of my litters make their own, and why not? It a bit cheaper and healthier. I usually buy jarred..but I think next time I will make it homemade. If you buy it jarred, do you have a brand you like? I have been wanting to buy Rao"s but it is freakishly expensive compared to other brands. I think they only use organic products. I buy jarred, but then add some herbs to it. I get Prego, but I haven’t really bought any spaghetti sauce in ages. Spaghetti sounds so good, but I just never make it.

We never had store-bought spaghetti sauce until the Campbell's Soup store (for growers and employees) offered it. Since my Dad grew tomatoes for them, he swore by it, although he wasn't a huge fan of spaghetti to begin with.

But you no doubt have all the ingredients to make a really tasty sauce.

Do you grow your own tomatoes? I sure wouldn't use store bought ones to make spaghetti sauce. I buy Ragu but add some diced onions and ground garlic.

I use canned. Is that OK with you? There is more than one way to make spaghetti sauce you know .and most recipes are quite tasty.

@snowy22315 Canned is MUCH better than those cardboard tasting raw tomatoes they sell at the stores.

I can no longer cook or bake, so I use jarred. Usually Ragu. I have a chunky mushroom sauce that I will have with some gnocchi sometime when someone makes it for me.

@snowy22315 Yes. This variety that I buy from Walmart tastes just like homemade. My mother couldn't cook well except for her gnocchi. It was delicious.

I usually by Jar just cause it's easy and quick to make but now and then I make from scratch. When I buy jar I go with the 3 cheese Walmart brand, it's cheaper and I think it has a fairly good taste.

Oh wow now there's a question? Sometimes we make our own. Sometimes we buy already made in a jar. Ragu. That's the brand Yvonne buys, I think. I make my own, chopped tomatoes, garlic, salt, pepper, basil, Simple but tasty

I made it once and it wasn’t very good I probably didn’t add all the correct ingredients it was early on in my cooking years. I buy Bertolli my husband likes that brand.

Sometimes it seems like things just don't taste the way they should, which is always disappointing. You might have to taste As you go along if you decide to try it again.

I usually use a 16 ounce can of diced and a can of tomato sauce and mix it for spaghetti sauce. Sometimes I add tomato paste too.

I buy a big bottle of it, and keep it on the go in the fridge. It is store bought. I am happy with that arrangement, I don't have a recipe for a good spaghetti sauce really, I like the Presidents Choice brand.

I never buy jarred, I always make it myself. I buy canned San Marzano tomatoes, the best for a good sauce.

I wonder if they sell them on Amazon? If not, I could probably get sis to find me some at Delallo Italian store. WegmAns might be a place to look too

@snowy22315 San Marzano tomatoes are sweeter and very few seeds, they are not round, but long, longer than Roma tomatoes. They grow in the south of Italy.

@snowy22315 I couldn’t bear buying a jar of sauce - too full of salt, sugar, fat etc, and it’s so easy to make yourself. Not everyone has the time.

I make my own (shocker) but I do sometimes keep a jar on hand for really lazy nights. Rao's is okay but I haven't found it worth the crazy price. Mine would win in a taste test and also taste/price test.

Maybe you should see if there are any contests around. It seems like chili has it covered when it comes to those kinds of contests though. Don't think I have heard of one for spaghetti sauce

I almost always make my own. I rarely go for jarred or packed sauces, but if I do, it's usually Barilla or San Remo.
