The True North

Yesterday the King and Queen of England were in Canada. They had a whirlwind short, yet busy trip. Both days had their agendas packed full. I don't know how they do it all with a smile on their face, they aren't getting any younger and that was quite a pace they had to keep up. I marveled at the pomp and circumstance that the country showered on the King and Queen, and how the King spoke to so many. He even did a puck drop for a hockey game. Today the King delivered the Speech from the Throne at Parliament. In watching the coverage on the news, it really struck a chord in me. I love the country that my family has resided in for almost 200 years. As the King concluded his speech, he declared that Canada, is the true North strong and free. Such kind words to someone who loves this country so.

Thank you Marie. I felt the same way. We have to admit that we are the same, but we are different, and that will maybe put an end to this nonsense. I would like that so much.

We have taken so much disrespect the past 9 or 10 months, but my love for my country has never waivered. I am certain that we would immigrate to another country should we ever be taken over by the US, I hope that would never happen.

Yes, my family is the only people to work the land where the home place is and the adjacent farm.

It was very heartfelt to hear him say those words. He and our new Prime Minister, Mark Carney, have a very healthy and professional relationship from when our PM helped them out of hot water working for the Bank over there.

I always see Canada as quite closely aligned with Australia. We too would welcome visits from the King and Queen of England and would pull out all stops to make their stay enjoyable. Like you, I don't know how they keep up the pace.

I am not the same age as they are, but I would be hard pressed to keep up with their schedule. I agree that our countries are very similar in many ways. Apparently it is a very easy transition to relocate from Canada to Australia, we share many of the same values and way of life.

The security was quite tight, I would never have the privilege of meeting the Royals.

I agree, and I enjoyed seeing the coverage on the news. I will say that they are both starting to show their age, I cannot imagine how they manage such full days, but they do.

They showed a tiny excerpt of their visit to Canada here on our local news. I don't know how they keep up the pace either.

He gave a lovely speech from what I saw. It is remarkable how they travel here and there and are in the public eye and so devoted to their jobs, at ages that the rest of us would be enjoying retirement. That amazes me.

I also love Canada. It's a beautiful and peaceful country. I remember when I was in Halifax, The Queen visited us. I had the chance to closely greet with her.

Thank you. That was such an honour to have been able to be close enough to greet the Queen. I remember when we were children, my baby brother's class went to a gathering where the then, Prime Minister, Pierre Elliott Trudeau, was to speak at. My brother was able shake his hand and it had a huge impression on him even as such a young student.
