I don't have a accent. I remember working at the telephone company and placing a call for a person who told me I had an accent. I was shocked. Me? No. Now my BFF 's mom had an accent big time. When I'd travel to visit her I was so into her accent i would copy her. By the way, I think there's a condition where people can take on others accents. Now southerners have one, New Yorkers, Bostonians, etc. But, no I don't have an accent. Do you?

Everyone has an accent. No one normally notices their own accent, but indeed everybody has an accent. To my ears I have no detectable accent, but a language expert could broadly determine what area of the country I am from.

I tend to disagree. I have the same way of speaking as my daughter, my grandson, and all else I come into contact with. And, there is no accent. Maybe others coming from another locality or country would feel that I do but to me we don't.

I didn't realize for years that I still have some of that Chicago accent going on. I was born there, and learned to talk there--lived there until I was 6? You would think it would all have left me by now. Several years of my childhood were spent in the deep south, as was some time in Alaska. I lived nearly 4 years in Montana. But here's that Chicago accent, still hanging around. You don't hear your own accent, but you do hear that of others.

Of course, we all have an accent, we just can't detect it because we talk the same way those around us speak. To anyone not raised in my area, they could detect my/our accents. On those "official" accent detectors online, they claim I speak like people from Southern Missouri mixed with a West Virginia accent in the way I say some words. I've always thought that was funny!

I don't think I have an accent but that's only because most of those I associate with have a similar accent. I think everyone has one. You're not going to have the same accent as someone on the other side of the country.

I don't think of myself as having one. Have never heard of people here in Idaho as having one either.

I guess to someone from the Southern United States, I have a different accent. Once using OnStar in my car, I got someone with a Southern accent. The person I was talking to couldn't understand me saying Heron Road and could only hear Herring. The whole conversation was challenging for us both. Generally, I feel like I don't have an accent. Most people on TV speak just like the people around me.

I can see that might happen. I just never thought of myself as having an accent. I have never heard of anyone living here in Idaho as being said to have one either.

I think if I heard you speak that I would think you did have an accent If you heard me speak you would say the same of me. I think everyone has an accent related to where they live or come from

Yup I have a New York accent. Even living here in Pennsylvania for many years people still say to me "you're not from around here are you" and I just laugh. Guess you can take the girl out of New York but you can't take the New York out of the girl.

You may say so but some time you might unknowingly give out your accent.

I think everyone has one depending on the area in which he/she lives. If I go to Boston, I'm sure I sound like I have an accent.
