Today, although it was supposed to be was not a hot day, in fact it was quite comfortable. However, since I am going to be gone later in the week..I will probably set it to come on at a certain temp. We can"t have kitty broiling in here. Yesterday, these friends of mine mentioned another one from the group, apparently they don't have AC in their house, and they are elderly. Not a good move. They don't think they can afford a whole system .but there are orgs around here that can help. Maybe a room AC would help in the interim. Actually, I have something that roomie used to use in his room because he never thought the house was cool enough .but that think is big and bulky..Someone striong would have to move it.

Just a fan helps a lot. If either one of them has breathing problems they might even be able to get a filtered system

That's right Eva
Yvonne has to use a fan quite a lot and not only when it's warm.
It really does help her quite a lot

It can be. Thus far the summer hasn't been bad. It is humidity that is worse than the heat most of the time.

@snowy22315 - I agree, I cannot stand humidity. Our house in Switzerland was a lot more humid than this apartment.

That is right in this day and time it is a necessity unless you live in a Northern climate, even then it is used much more than it used to be

Here there is a program that gives away free fans to the elderly.

I am sure they must have fans. They came from Florida.

A few years ago, my central AC went out on July 1st, during a horrible heat wave of 100++. I was so miserable, and parts had to be ordered. It was repaired after several days, I was so glad. It's already been checked and serviced this year, I hope it makes it through the worst of the summer. So far, I haven't hardly had to use it at all. But I know the time is coming very soon. I am glad yours is working fine.

No, we are on borrowed time with the reasonable temperatures, I know. I do love the cooler nights we've been blessed with, they cool the house down and then I don't need the AC. I think that's about to change, unfortunately.

Do you have central ac in your house? Here mostly everyone has ac attached to rooms to save electricity costs.

I was having trouble liking and responding. I have not been here today. It seems when I shut down my computer last night it logged me out of here. There are floor models of air conditioners that you vent with a hose like a dryer hose out the window. I imagine that is what you are talking about. I hope some of your friends can take it to the people who are doing without.

I hope they can get some help there. It’s just too hot to go without. I don’t know how many people die each summer due to heat exhaustion directly related to how hot people’s homes are. Organizations here have fan drives all the time, but the elderly especially need more help.

If it's not too hot, a good fan should do. But if it's too hot, they need AC. They should ask for help if there is any.

We usually have window units put in our windows by now...but we are getting estimates to see what it will cost to put in a new furnace/ac system in. We might just continue on with the window type units. Fortunately there have only been a few warm nights, that made sleeping difficult.

I use the ceiling fan when it gets stuffy. It will be in the 80s soon; and the AC will have to be turned on. The elderly definitely need to stay cool.

That's a must during summer. I can't when it's too hot. I'm kinda glad winter is here. Summer was way too hot and hard to handle since last year.
