What's under the cover?

Under this cover is our motor-home. We used to put our caravan under a lean-to at our friend’s place but the motor-home is too high. So we bought a cover for it and had no end of trouble getting it on several weeks ago. We ended up with Vince walking on the roof of the vehicle which isn’t a good idea at all. So we weren’t looking forward to taking the cover off today but, armed with a broom each, it came off very easily. We have a few ideas on how we’ll be able to get the cover back next time with less trouble. Early tomorrow morning, we’re taking the motor-home to a repair place as it’s developed a leak somewhere in the water system. It’s too complicated for us to fix ourselves. We’ve waited several weeks for the repair place to be able to fit us in but tomorrow is D-Day.

I hope fixing the leak won't cost you an arm and a leg... Taking something in to be worked on always gives me anxiety... Repairs can be so expensive! We had our car taken to a shop a couple of months ago for repairs... We ended up having the motor rebuilt and paid $1,700 total for the repairs but we have a car that runs and drives like new now. Buying a new car is a LOT more expensive, so we feel like we got off lucky.

I have a feeling this might be costly. The water heating unit is completely sealed from the inside, as the regulations say it must be and I think it might involve quite a bit to get to it even just to inspect it.

@JudyEv I guess it just depends on whether it's worth it to you two to get it in shape to keep using it. Good luck with it.

I can imagine a lot of work covering and uncovering your motor-home. Let's hope the fixing is not too expensive.

When we dropped it off an hour or two ago, they said it might be ready to pick up today.

I hope it's just a minor issue and can get fixed easy. I haven't seen a motor-home but I think it is something good to have.

We've enjoyed the trips we've had in it and are looking forward to using it more. Here is a photo of ours. It has a shower and toilet near the rear. Two people can sleep in the 'Luton' over the cab but there is also a double bed which we use as we're too old to go up and down the ladder.

It was a pity that it wouldn't fit under the previous lean-to. We could dig out the floor but if it sits over any water that might collect then the bottom would start to rust.

We don't cover ours, and many people don't. But when it comes to the pool cover, which is also a monster, over the years we've come up with rather seamless ways to get it on and off relatively easily. It makes a huge difference when you have a plan.

It will be interesting to see what happens when we put the cover on next time. Hopefully Plan A will work. We don't really have much of a Plan B but Vince walking on the roof isn't a good idea.

@JudyEv Yeah, I can see where that could pose an issue. Even getting up on a ladder for me (with my back issues) to clean the gutters is becoming more and more difficult to do.

They're saying it should only take a day so that would be good.

Ouch. Plumbing repairs are expensive, in a house or a mobile house (RV). Best of luck in getting it repaired, and inexpensively!

Thanks. They're saying we should get it back today which would be good. At least there would only be one day's labour that way.

When you see it under the cover, it really is tall. I can almost imagine how difficult it was to remove the cover. Good luck with receiving the outcome of the repair issue, I hope that it is not a huge expensive fix and can be done in good time.

That's a strange photograph - it makes the covered item look far too narrow to be a motor home! Glad you have found a better way, and hope the leak is easily fixed!

Yes, the photo makes it look very narrow. The cover slid off beautfully taking it from the front to the back. We're going to try putting in the same way - front to back - and hopefully it won't catch on anything.

When you walk on it, it's not very stable either so a bit dangerous when you're in your late 70s.
