Happy humpday, ya beatniks!
And if you’re wondering why I’m stealing @xander6464 ‘s line, a few years ago he petitioned me for countdown by today’s artist. I was only too happy to oblige. The “king of the road” is back today with a moon song. (And Linda? NO!)
The Moon Is High - Roger Miller
Well, the moon is high
And so am I
I’m telling you, THAT is a way to start a song! Roger Miller was such a great wordsmith that the fact sometimes gets lost in the jocularity. He closes the song with another great couplet: “come the dawn and it will dawn on me you’re gone.”
I think this will get JJ’s smoke seal of approval, too.
The Moon Is High
Written by Roger Miller
Recorded by Roger Miller
From Roger and Out, 1964
I can tell you’re mad at me:

Don’t you have a school-free pool nap to plan for?

---------Gee, I hope it doesn't ruin the big Trump Parade.

That's not your line who did you steal it from?. Wait, let me read more, thats what I thought. I am all for it as long as they approve. Sharing is nice.
These type of songs are always cool, I came from bad people only thing that would put me in good moon was stuff like this.

@FourWalls We all know our past one way or another. Inventing never but heard it for sure. At least our evil ancestors implanted something properly. Come on that was funny.

Glad to hear it! Boz Scaggs used that line in “Dime a Dance Romance,” too, so I’m pretty sure Roger didn’t invent it.

It wasn’t a single but I’m surprised how many people did know it.

You’re not going to listen and risk a headache to make sure, though, are you? Good girl.

He did a lot of things. There are some of his RCA songs that are rockabilly. Then he did a Broadway play, too!

That was awesome AND I notice it's from the best year ever in the history of years (1964).
