What did you get for losing a tooth?

This is my niece, Annelyn, and she just lost a tooth (obviously). I think a lot of cultures have “The Tooth Fairy”. So I’d put my lost tooth under my pillow at night, and in the morning a dollar would be in its place. Obviously, my sister and I did not believe in a real fairy, nor do my nieces and nephew, but the money is fun! My dad grew up in poverty, as the 15th of 16 children so there was no tooth fairy at their house. My mom said she’d get 50 cents. My sister leaves her children $1, but they get it as a dollar coin. Since you don’t see them a lot in every day life the kids think/thought it is the coolest thing. Did you get visits from “The Tooth Fairy”?

I got a quarter, but that was in the 60s. When I reached adulthood I had to PAY the “tooth fairy” dentist for removing them, what’s up with that!!!!

I can't recall how much exactly, but I did get some coins. But I think my fairies were weird, because I remember finding the coins under my pillow before I even put the tooth there .

The fairy needed to get to bed! I sometimes went in to give a morning hug and slipped the money under the pillow then

What Seems like they loved their job. The moment they were informed about a fallen tooth they would haste to pay you. Plus they trusted you. Even paid you before you handed them their package

Oh yes, but the amounts were modest. I think the most I got was 35 cents maybe. Of course things cost less in those days.

I was surprised my sister didn’t lose her mind and give them a five or something. I’m glad she stuck to a dollar.

it was a long time ago when the tooth fairy came to visit me but it was a coin that I got. It somehow was suppoed to make losing a tooth ok. It usually did the trick.

If I had kids I don’t think I’d beyond a dollar. I mean, it’s a tooth, and there are so many anyway.

I think the max I got for the first teeth was about a quarter. I knew Dad and Grandma were the tooth fairies, but I wouldn't ever mention that I knew that. I had a little sister, so I was always careful not to mess up the good stuff as she was right behind me. The last time I was in Florida, one of my little grands lost a baby tooth--the first one. My daughter came in to my room and said, Mom, I have no cash at all, just two dimes! Do you have any cash? I actually did...I had one dollar bill, a five, and a ten. She didn't think the one dollar was quite enough, so she gave him the five from the tooth fairy. Oh, and oddly the tooth fairy wrote a nice note to my grandson, that said, you get a special amount for the first tooth, because you were so brave. After that, he gets $2. It seems like a fortune compared to the tiny amount we used to get, but times have changed, even for the ol' tooth fairy! Annelyn is a cutie!

Thank you. My dad accidentally gave my sister a five dollar bill, and had no idea until my sister came in jumping up and down the next day.

@AmbiePam Did he have to keep up the $5 thing with the rest of the baby teeth?

We were poor. We got a dime. It seemed like a lot since we seldom had money or an allowance. I love her beautiful hair.

No, but the practice here is to throw the tooth on the rooftop, so it can be replaced soon.

She grew up so much. And those pretty curls. Nope never. In our country (island) it was different. We were told to throw it over the house roof and to say, "mouse mouse come take my milky tooth and give me your sharp tooth" We would say that maybe 7 times. Now that I think of it, sounds weird. But my aunties made me do it. I was a lot naive back then I don't know if they were just making fun of me or it's a real thing. But yes that's how it was for me.

I got a dime, but that was more than 60 years ago, when you could actually buy something for that.

No tooth fairy in our house either but mother saw to it they were extracted at the right time in that the new set of teeth were perfectly placed and we all had a good set of teeth Ofourse now I have lost a few but have no plans to replace them.

She is such a cute little punkin. congratulations to her for losing her first tooth! Back in my day we got a nickle. If they were raising kids today, it wouldn't be any more, they didn't have alot to give.

I did and I think the going rate when I was young was two shillings. I must ask my friend's grandkids what they get nowadays.
