Can’t take advantage of the sale

I went online to our local supermarket and saw that the Palmolive dish soap we use is on sale. A 32.5 fl oz container is $3.99 instead of $4.49, and there is also a $2 off coupon. Final cost is $1.99 plus tax.
Then a 12-roll pack of Doubles Plus Bounty paper towels is $27.99 instead of $29.99, and there is also a $5 off coupon. Final cost is $22.99 plus tax.
Both are great prices here so I sent hubby to the store to get them.
The exact Bounty I wanted was nowhere to be found, which was a major bummer because usually it’s way more expensive. I wanted to stock up while it’s on sale.
Palmolive was there so hubby got it. When he got home I looked at the receipt. It said Palmolive $3.99 and no coupon was taken off. I didn’t understand why as I clipped it online, which automatically puts it on the store card and then automatically redeems at the register when you scan the card or enter your phone number. Turns out hubby forgot to enter his phone number at checkout and the guy at the register didn’t ask him to do it either. That’s why $2 were not taken off.
I was upset of course. The only reason I wanted him to get Palmolive was because it was on sale. I still have an unopened one in the pantry. If it were me I’d probably go back to the store and either try to get the $2 back or return the one he bought and buy it again, this time making sure the coupon was applied. Hubby, of course, won’t do such a thing.
Today is the last day to use these coupons. I was gonna go to a different location of the supermarket and see if the Bounty I want is there but changed my mind. Even if it’s there I’d have to drag it home myself, which will be a big challenge as it’s very bulky. And hubby is going out after work so he won’t be able to pick me up. That’s that! Hopefully there will be another sale and coupons to use in the near future.
I wish I had gone to the store with him. Then I would’ve made sure he entered his phone number so we could use the $2 off coupon. And maybe I’d have been able to find the Bounty I wanted, even though he said he checked everywhere and it wasn’t there.

You should indeed have gone to the store Lena.
You would have got the $2 coupon used and you would be writing a happy post.
Never mind Lena
There will be other offers and other coupons for you to take advantage of

For me to get there on my own I’d have to either pay $2.90 each way to get there and back or walk for at least an hour each way. Neither makes sense just to get $2 back.

That's a shame, but at least now you have extra for later.

@kaylachan I’m not sure if they do on Bounty, especially the $5 off coupon, but will have to be on the lookout.

My mom was all about brand stuff and never said things like we need more toilet paper it was always like we need more Charmin etc. Now being on a budget I have discovered I really like the Great Value stuff at Walmart just only now and then I get some brand stuff,

Would be great if there was a Walmart where I live. Unfortunately, none exists.

@lovebuglena We have that here sometimes but I don't think they have it for food items. More like white goods, etc.

I hate it when there is a sale but the item on sale is not on the shelf. Here we can get what is called a rain check and then we can use that to buy the item at a different time for the sale price, even though it’s no longer on sale. At least that’s the way it used to be. Haven’t done that in a while so not sure if still exists.

How can one forget to enter phone number or give store card? I don’t get it. And why didn’t cashier ask? At the Russian store near us they always ask if we have the store card.

Knowing how I am about money, I'd have been fit to be tied. lol. But I know you have certain challenges which make it harder to get where you want to be. It is what it is, I guess. As for sale items, most stores will still issue rain checks if they run out of a sale item, and when they do, if it's a particularly good price, I always make sure to get a rain check. Granted, the coupon part of it doesn't apply since they expire of course. But at least you can still get the sale price on a rain check.
