Salmon in the Works

If you have followed me for any length of time, you might already know that my favorite fish happens to be salmon, and my wife's least favorite fish also happens to be salmon. So, the only time I really have any is when we're out at a restaurant that serves it. I have even tried to make it several different ways over the years to see if I could find a way to do it that she likes. But it's always been no cigar. Even offering her pieces of restaurant salmon fare has never made her eyebrows raise. But she recently told me, "I'll have another go at it," and I am now "authorized" to make salmon again—and of course, I'm taking her up on her offer. I bought some yesterday at Aldi as well as a couple of cedar planks elsewhere, and have a plan to make them on the grill on the planks with some teriyaki sauce I also got at Aldi. I wanted a honey sesame sauce, but they didn't have any. But teriyaki is good on salmon as well. I was going to make it on the grill tonight, but it looks like we may have sudden dinner plans at my sister and brother-in-law's house, so I will have to wait. I'll probably do it Monday or Tueday. In any event, the salmon experiment is on again anew, and I will let you all know how it goes. Wish me luck. If we can have salmon more often, I'd really enjoy that. Worst case scenario, I might just start doing a cod loin for her and a piece of salmon for me since they cook similarly and I wouldn't have to do that much extra work. We'll see.

@porwest There are things I disliked in the past that I like now. Maybe you will be lucky.

@LadyDuck Same here. Take Brussels sprouts and asparagus. You'd have to drag me kicking and screaming to eat it, and now I absolutely love both.

My fingers are crossed this one will do the trick and MAYBE her taste buds have changed enough to tolerate it? We'll see. I don't have my hopes held TOO high. lol

Good luck with Yvonne liking it this time. Our 'Irish' son likes salmon and I can see us having it when he comes to visit.

You have me confused with the other Jim from Scotland, Missy. I'm the a$$hole from America. Get it straight. I've spent years building this reputation around here, you know.

@JudyEv Hey. It happens to the best of us. At least I felt like I was in good company. The other Jim and I get along quite well and have similar traits, so...maybe the confusion is not so surprising? lol He IS quite a bit less cantankerous than I am, though.

I love salmon, especially smoked salmon. But then, I like most fish (talapia is a bit mushy).

Good luck. I'll eat a salmon patty if I have to. I think the salmon/cod idea is the best idea.

They use to offer it every night on the cruise dinner menu as an alternative if you didn't like anything else. I often had it every single night. Now they don't offer it anymore.

unfortunately I only like sardines and mackerel, now I am more focused on health and salmon is a fish whose price must be considered.

I have salmon at least twice a week. Really love it.
