Got lucky with the sale

Last week Bounty paper towels were on sale at Stop & Shop (our local supermarket) and there was a $5 off digital coupon there as well. A 12-roll pack of Doubles Plus Bounty was $27.99 instead of $29.99. With the $5 off coupon the price would be $22.99 (not including tax). Seemed like a pretty good deal to me. While we still have Bounty I wanted to get it because I’d rather pay much less now than pay more later. Hubby went to the supermarket to get it but that particular Bounty was nowhere in sight. I was bummed that we couldn’t take advantage of this deal, especially since the digital coupon was expiring the next day. To my luck, while browsing the same store yesterday, I noticed that this exact Bounty was in abundance. It was still on sale for $27.99 and when I checked for available coupons the $5 off digital coupon was there again. I clipped it to my card. I grabbed one pack of the Bounty and put it in the shopping cart. No way was I going to leave the store without getting it. But then I began to ponder about how in the world I was gonna drag it home along with the rest of the groceries by myself. Walking would take at least one hour. Taking a bus was another option but it would still require lots of walking and probably even a long wait for the bus. Hubby was at work at the time so I couldn’t rely on him to come get me. After some thought, I decided to give hubby a call as it was nearing the end of his work day. Turned out he was held up at work and wouldn’t be able to leave on time. And then it would be at least half an hour for him to drive from work to the store. While I didn’t want to wait that long I decided it was best just to wait for him instead of attempting to carry everything myself. And that was a smart decision. Plus, I got some steps in walking back and forth through the supermarket isles.

I always have to remind Pretty not to buy more than we can carry when we walk to the expensive grocery store. It's half a mile from our house on city streets (no sidewalks)... Once, she uhm... "borrowed" a shopping cart when she bought more than we could carry... Then paid a local kid $5 to take it back for us.

When I shop at a store I always take the handheld shopping cart instead of the one on wheels. This way I don’t take more than I can fit into it or carry weight-wise.

The kid must have been happy to get $5.

My daughter now has a wagon she takes when she goes to the store. I wish she had it when she was getting all the groceries. She would use a store cart and then had to remember to take it back.

Sales come back but coupons may not, or at least not for a while.

That’s great if you get a great price and the quality is good.

I've been caught like that, buying this, that and the other then remembering that I have to walk home carrying it all.

That’s why I try to avoid shopping carts that are on wheels. You can put a lot in it and you don’t even realize how heavy it will be once you have to carry it all.
