The storms are over. Now for the rice cooker! Or like that Showtime series from the 80s, STEAMBATH. I have my A/C tuneup scheduled for next Wednesday, because that thing is going to be seriously worked out if this forecast is correct. Let’s keep cool with cool music! Here’s today’s moon song. Walking on the Moon - The Police We saw it on the side of a car. — Andy Summers, when asked how The Police picked their name I’m glad I got to see The Police (1982, Scope, Norfolk, Virginia, if you’re interested…or even if you aren’t ). (A Flock of Seagulls opened, and they were great, too.) That was when they were popular, but before the explosion of Synchronicity (they played Aloha Stadium in Honolulu a couple of years later, to show how massively popular they’d become). But before all of that, there were three guys, two Brits and an American, trying to be Bob Marley and the Wailers. Seriously, there was a LOT of reggae influence in their early days. In fact, this album’s title is an English-trying-to-sound-French attempt at “white reggae.” The song comes from Sting being drunk, walking ‘round the room after a concert. He said (per Picky Wedia) that he thought “walking ‘round the room” was stupid, so he changed it to something dumber: “Walking on the Moon.” One of the great songs from a band that just didn’t last long enough…or maybe, given their breakup (and other bands that have reformed for the sake of money), they lasted just long enough. Walking on the Moon Written by Sting Recorded by The Police From Regatta de Blanc, 1979 Some may say:

Hubby and I both knew song and artist, but when I first saw the title I didn't think I knew it but then it was obvious when I heard it

Great choice, and I’d forgotten about this one when I was trying to think of “Moon” songs. Shame on me, especially when Sting is from my neck of the woods. I never went to see The Police back in their heyday, so you are one up on me. Sting didn’t do so well when he went solo, but still wrote and recorded some great songs. My favourite album of his is Ten Summoner’s Tales. Fields of Gold is particularly awesome.

Glad you enjoyed this. I’m like you: someone else said “Sting was in the Police?” and I’m more like “Sting had a solo career?” I love Eva Cassidy’s cover of “Fields of Gold.”
