The Coupon Lady.

Have you ever been in line at a grocery store behind The Coupon Lady? I have written before about The Lottery Guy. "I'll have two of those, one of those and six of those. No wait. Five of those..." This morning it was the Coupon Lady."Did my three for the price of two go through? I'm supposed to save a dollar. Here..I'll scan it again. Oh it went through? But did that other one work?" I have been told I have the patience of a Saint. But after about three minutes of this I was wishing there was still a Weekly World News available for me to read. Do you remember Weekly World News? Eventually I escaped with my bottle of Char*onnay, two Reece's cups, and some canned beets. Thanks for letting me vent. I hope I do not sound hysterical.

I've had that happen before. I understand how patient you'd have to be to put up with that. I once had cupons, on a recpt, and tried to use them. turned out I dropped it on the scanner in just the right way and it picked it up.

@TheHorse I love saving money, but that was dumb luck it'd land on the scanner in just the right way.

If I were behind the counter, I'd be quick to say"May I help you?" to the next customer before she could finish her scratching. You comment made me chuckle.

@Ineeddentures Some people seem pretty oblivious to their environments.

I had a lottery guy paying in front of me while waiting to pay for gas. I was losing my patience, I asked to the cashier to get my cash because other people were waiting to fill up. I am glad she did.

@TheHorse - And it was true, people waiting outside to fill up and we could not move because I could not pay.

I admit to being someone who uses coupons whenever I can, but I just hand them over and watch as each one is scanned. I couldn't hold up the line buying scratchcards or lotto cards and checking each one .....it's not fair on everyone else in the queue.

Agreed. Actually, a man with lots of groceries just let me in front of him with my two items. Many people are more than considerate.

That happened to me before and I was annoyed but didn’t show it to the other waiting people.

People can drive you to drink. The other day when I was on my trip I stopped at Starbucks on the turnpike to get some coffee, for myself and nephew. Some lady was in there taking like 10 minutes to order some specialty coffee, a glass of some kind of milk and a cup of ice. I really had to stop myself from saying There is a line you know! This was especially egregious since people are traveling, and no doubt anxious to get somewhere.

Oh, yes I have been in a situation like that before!! Like you, I only had a couple of items while she must have been doing here monthly shopping and she must have had a coupon for every item!!! Sounds like you handled it pretty well, you did escape with what you wanted!!!

Karma paid me back this morning. An older gentleman with many items let me in in front of him. I accepted his offer.

Wow! I hope you've calmed down by now, pony! When stores still accepted coupons, Pretty worked hard keeping our grocery bill down. She clipped coupons, watched for sales and emailed manufacturers when she saw something she wanted to see if they could drop the price on it. A lot of them would. And yes, people behind us in line could start grumbling under their breath about how long it was taking. Now, Pretty has several apps on her junk phone and scans our receipts through each one after we get done shopping. She usually gets back between $20 and $30 each month. That's worth going to some trouble...

It does get aggravating. One time I was behind a guy that had to try 3 different credit cards before finding one that worked

We don't seem to have a coupon system here which is a very good thing I think.

I’m glad my supermarkets have digital coupons that are applied automatically. No need to deal with paper coupons and scanning them. Not sure if I’ve ever had a coupon lady in front of me but I’ve had people that take forever to pay.
