The discussion title is a play on John Conlee’s song “Friday Night Blues.” Oh, I don’t have the blues. I had a great day today. My annual physical with my “civilian” doctor (she’s not affiliated with the VA, which is why I call her a “civilian” doctor) was great. She’s thrilled with the weight loss, the improvement in my breathing (I told her maybe it’s a combination of being smart as I get old, the medicine, and NOT trying to prove my endurance out in the heat and humidity), and most of my blood work. When you’re young, you think you have no limitations. When you’re old, you know better…sometimes learning the hard way. Of course, that doesn’t always apply when I’m out in the middle of the Red River Gorge, or toodling around New Harmony, Indiana. No, I’ll stay out there until I’m exhausted. My best friend said when you’re on vacation you might pay more for something that you’d never pay for at home, BECAUSE you’re “on vacation.” I guess that’s the same way with walking around New Harmony: I was “on vacation,” dang it! (And, to be fair, it wasn’t nearly as warm/hot/oppressive as it’s going to be starting tomorrow.) Anyway, before the appointment, I had time so I ran up to the VA (okay, I drove ) to pick up copies of my most recent bloodwork for my civilian doctor, as well as the results of my DexaScan for osteoporosis. I also made an appointment with the podiatrist while I was up there, because they can’t decide whether or not they want to let me get my insteps this year after telling me I could. I was up there for about a half an hour and got everything accomplished…including my one-mile walk!! The photo is the Wabash River, which is the border between Indiana and Illinois. This is where they built the settlement of New Harmony. It’s a lovely area (as I said about the river at the Land Between the Lakes, I could sit by a riverbank for hours). For those of you who are about to be hit by the first major heat wave of the summer, stay safe and hydrated. Our meteorologist said the first heat wave of the season tends to be the hardest on the human body. Oh, and while you’re at it, remember the fur babies. I’m putting out a couple of big bowls of water for them. Y’all have a great evening! Here’s “Friday Night Blues” by John Conlee (Linda? NO!!!!!):

Lovely photo. I hibernated in the AC while the weed guy and his assistant worked out in the heat. I made sure they had water.

It was 90F here today, so we already started seeing the heatwave... I stayed in the house. Pretty said she was cold so turned the air up and I started sweating so turned it back down again. I told her to put more clothes on if she's cold. I'll get out tomorrow morning before it starts getting hot if the grass is dry. I need to mow up against the house and around the garage where the guy on the riding mower couldn't reach. Hope you have a good night.

@DaddyEvil — what, are you pushing the mower with your nose?

Those results are more precious than what we waited for while in school Good you and your doctor are both satisfied. Continue doing what you did to get there. My holidaying is a thing of othe past but I reminisce on them and feel happy I never feel thirsty and that is my problem.

Thank you. I rarely feel thirsty, too, but I drink so much liquid (three glasses of tea at lunch plus a glass of water on the way home) it’s hard to feel thirsty.

I made fun of my mom when she was in her 50s having the fan on with the AC. Now every time I drive by the cemetery I yell, "Sorry, Mom, you were right!"

I have a friend who retired in New Harmony. She loves it there. My sister in law lives there, too. I am so glad you loved it as much as I do. I am so glad your appointments went well and you are on a great path. Good job, I know it isn't always easy!

It’s easier to accept that I’m not young anymore now that I have a Medicare card in my wallet. I so enjoyed the walk around the area. Sadly too late for the golf cart tour, but I’ll try again!

@FourWalls I always enjoy history and how different towns/cities/places of interest came together, and learning about the people that did it. I enjoy all of your travels very much, Karen.

Although we are led to believe that our NHS (National Health Service) is the envy of the world, I do think that you Americans are looked after far better than us Brits. Definitely in terms of preventive measures. The NHS is free, up to a point, and some get free prescriptions, but we don’t have yearly checks as a matter of course to monitor our health. I’m glad to hear that you are doing ok. We’re experiencing a mini heatwave right now. It’s only lasted 3 days, and due to break tonight, returning to normal temperatures tomorrow with much needed rain in the forecast. I hate the heat, so I’m looking forward to the cooler weather.

That’s odd, because my doctor writes this as a “physical” because my health insurance allows for a free physical once a year. Our insurance system is stupid, though: mammograms have to be once every 366 days. You can’t schedule it a week before the one-year anniversary. In contrast, a colonoscopy is allowed once a year, so theoretically you could have a colonoscopy on December 29 and another one on January 3rd. (Neither are procedures that people line up weeks in advance to have done. )

She asked me if I had heartburn, and I said, “nothing that staying away from Chuy’s won’t help.”

That's great that you got such a good report. Vince has orthotics and couldn't get by without them.

My native place is on bank of Ganga river. During my summer vacation when I visited my grandparents there, I would spend a long time sitting on the bank of the river and watching it. It was so soothing. I don't understand " Friday blues", we get blues on Monday morning.

I suppose the idea of “Friday blues” is not having anyone to go out with or having any place to go. Not me, I love being home on Friday night!!!
