Today was my dad’s birthday and in honor of that we went to a steakhouse. My dad loved meat. Also my mom and hubby and I haven’t had steak in a while so it was the perfect opportunity to enjoy it.
We ordered a 44 oz. porterhouse and a 10 oz. filet mignon. Each one came with two sides. We got creamed spinach, broccoli, mashed potatoes, and string beans. And we also got mushrooms and onions for the table. For dessert we had a chocolate lava cake with cookies and cream ice cream and a crème brûlée.
We shared everything. The meat was tender and flavorful. A perfect medium rare. The sides were delicious. We even ended up taking some home as we couldn’t finish them all. And hubby took the bone home to enjoy tomorrow.
Hubby had a glass of 2009 red wine, my mom had a non-alcoholic beer, and I had a bottle of lambic raspberry beer to toast to my dad.
It was a nice dinner in honor of my dad’s birthday. Just wish he was actually here to celebrate it.

Glad it was a great time, and WOW that steak looks big! So do those side dishes, for that matter!

Mushrooms and onions didn’t make it into the picture. They were still being prepared. Not the greatest picture either but it was more important to me to dive into the steak then try and perfect a photo.

@porwest I think if we hadn’t ordered the filet mignon the 44 oz wouldn’t have been enough for three people.

They hadn’t brought the mushrooms and onions yet so they are not in the picture.

What a nice way to celebrate a man's life with good food and a loving family. The food sounds devine.

I was contemplating buying a raw steak and going to my mom’s house and cooking it there but then there’d be grease everywhere and her house would smell. Plus we’d have to cook and clean. Steakhouse was a better option. I just wish the bill wasn’t as high as it was.

With tip, the bill was close $380. Ain’t cheap but it was really good. Saturday my mom spent almost $80 I think it was when I went for lunch with her and food wasn’t great.

It’s those quiet moments good food, shared stories, a raised glass that keep someone’s memory close. I’m sure he would’ve felt the love.
