What makes people do things like this?

Yesterday, a man in Idaho started a fire. He then hid himself and took up a sniper position, and when the firefighters arrived, shot and killed two of them, and another one is in ICU in critical condition. Law enforcement tracked him and found him, but he was dead. It isn't known yet if he died from a self-inflicted gunfight wound, etc. Yes, it happened in Idaho, but it could happen anywhere. But for the love of God, WHY??? What do people hope to accomplish, doing things like this???

@MarieCoyle Wow. That's no reason to do what he did.

@LindaOHio From what more information I have read, he has always been a bit different, he had anger issues, etc. It appears there were a few signs that things were not well with him, and he was living out of his truck.

I did read one news article that he had wanted to be a firefighter and wasn’t given the job.

Mental illness, and apparently in men especially mental illness involves killing people. Women kill too, including their own children. But the most violent are always the evil or mentally ill men.

I have a really hard time with things like this that take innocent lives.

It happened in Rochester, New York in 2012 as well. Why? Bruce Springsteen said in a song, “sir I guess there’s just a meanness in this world.” News reports said the firemen told the guy to move his car and he started the fire to get revenge on them. “I me my,” the theme song of humanity since Cain killed Abel.

Yes, there is meanness, you are right. I just don't understand how anyone can be this evil.

He was quite obviously a very distressed and mentally ill man.

That man was out of his mind. He has a weird purpose why he did that arson.

We lived in Northern Idaho many years ago. There were some deeply disturbed people there. Some grand neighbors but some organized crazies. too.

Yes, it is. I often wonder, did they try to get help and failed? Were they treated, and it didn't work out somehow, or they didn't follow up? Were they given medication, but didn't take it, or it didn't work? Of course, we never know...but there seems to be more insane violent acts like this, and more and more people die because of it all.

Somehow, we need to get a handle on all of this...offer better mental help for people, etc.

I heard the news, that is such an horrible thing to do! Firefighters went there to help, why would someone want to kill them, it is insane!

@nela13 I think so as well. An overload of bad situations is leading to a world in need of help in many ways.

A lot of things that are happening these days don't make much sense to most of us. You are correct, it is insane.
