Are Ya'll Ready for Boat #5?

We have had this one for almost 2 weeks ago. My husband immediately fell in love with it and stated that it will be a keeper! He has plans for taking the grand kids out to Ship Island and touring a few more islands in the area. This is a 26' Penn Yan boat that we picked up on the Gulf Coast. It is an older boat, but has so much potential. They were made in New York, but no longer in production. My husband immediately fell in love with it and has a new idea for something to put on it or in it almost every day. We purchased this one from an older man who bought it to restore himself. However, he came down with Covid several years ago and almost died before he got good and started on it. He had a long recovery and now has since been diagnosed with Autism and Dementia. It has a cuddy cabin which has been gutted and we will be able to redesign it as we want. This one is going to be a longer project, but the hubby will be working on it off and on. It will be fun to take it out for a weekend trip! That I am looking forward to! My husband has decided that he wants to keep this boat if all goes well and sell the Skeeter that he bought from his brother last year. I think he is tired of all the things his brother neglected on that one. I want to name this one Yin & Yang. I have been busy with my new job as purchasing agent here lately. I think I need some better benefits along with this job! What do ya'll think? Has he jumped off the deep or just getting started? Photo Credit: My Own

This will be one that he wants to keep. He will be working on this one a little bit at a time. We will see about how fast that goes.

@kareng What sort of time scale before she gets on the water?

Nah. I think this would be a lot of fun. I don't have the knack to do anything with restoring a boat, but if I did...sure. Why not?

It has been fun and he is keeping me busy ordering parts, this or that needed. I feel like I am back in the purchasing department at State of Louisiana Buildings and Grounds! And going to look/pick up boats are nice little road trips!

@kareng It was one of the perks of me being in sales for so many years. I knew how to find ANYTHING. lol

@porwest I guess we have that part in common since I spent several years in inside and outside sales with Boss Manufacturing Company and then again in the Purchasing Dept. for Buildings and Grounds for the State of Louisiana. It is always a challenge to find some things.

That boat looks big to me. I wish I could go for a ride in it if its sea worthy.

The hull checked out fine. It did have a patch on it but hubby said it was done well, so that was another good thing. I am not looking forward to polishing and waxing that baby though!

Boats aren't my thing, but as a project I like the idea. And it'll keep him busy!

You're going to have to open up a boat dealership. Good luck with all of that.

@LindaOHio A lot of friends have been asking. One of my husband's brothers have told him that he has gone crazy. His other brother is all excited about it. A few friends keep asking what he bought this week or weekend. Friends in town comment about another new boat when they pass the house and see "one more." It's getting funny.

It will be so fun for you and your family to take out and enjoy. I do think you may have to etect a huge building for all of these beauties! I have a friend who inherited a small farmhouse from her parents and it has a huge outbuilding. She didn’t need it as she had a garage. It has a concrete floor, is insulated, etc so she now rents it out to boat owners who store their boats there for the winter or if they don’t want to leave their boats on the water. She is so happy that she is doing this, it’s helping with expenses there and not just sitting empty.

Can't complain about the price, the trailer was worth that much, have all the dept finders, fish finders, prop and engine is good. So he still came out way ahead on that deal. It's just annoying.

Yess!! We are done for awhile now though after this last road trip--just got back home late this evening. I'll be posting on it tomorrow-but I will be sleeping LATE, if at all possible.

Lots of work to do on that one! So it will be a little at a time and in between other projects. It will be fun for a weekend trip out to islands!
