We are the world's largest reptile farm, selling hats and T-shirts.

By now, many of you have no doubt heard of ''Alligator Alcatraz''--a detention center for immigrants, located in the middle of the Florida Everglades. More like a tent type of city. Supposedly, it's maximum number of occupants will be 5,000 people. Yes, I realize some of these people are here illegally. A lot of them are productive citizens, they work, pay taxes, go to school, etc. They aren't all criminals lurking around in the night, trying to kill people. Most are just humans, trying to survive. The Florida Republican Party is now selling ''Alligator Alcatraz'' merchandise, or ''merch'' as it's popular to call it now. You can buy hats, T-shirts, bumper stickers, and decorate your life with these items. So if that's your thing, you know where to buy them now. Alligator Alcatraz immediately brought to mind the Japanese interment camps the US held thousands of Japanese Americans during WW2. Was I alive then? No, I wasn't. But many were that I grew up with, and I heard the stories...we are going backwards. Celebrating someone else's misery isn't right, nor Christian. This isn't the way, or the answer. This is hate in it's purest form.

It is a modern day concentration camp. It is scary if you compare Trump's demonization of the media, migrants, loyalty oaths, etc. compared to Hitler's. What these racist morons don't get is that the undocumented residents do all of the work that US citizens won't. Farmers in the red south states are crying that no one is showing up for work to tend and pick crops. Gee I wonder why? Maybe Americans will get it when there is no food in the grocery stores.

@MarieCoyle They are too stupid to have to foresight to realize that someone has to work in the fields. And I can't wait until this huge cut to Medicaid and SNAP hits their states. They send Dear Leader their $$ while being on government benefits. Yeah that isn't going to be so great in a year. Morons.

We are already feeling the effects of many immigrants not working.Farmers in Florida are plowing up all of their acres of tomatoes. They have no one to pick them. I guess maybe the powers that be should have thought of the consequences, but that didn’t happen. A modern day concentration camp is exactly what it is. No doubt he will build additional such places, probably on the side of a cliff or surrounded by toxic chemicals or other things they can dream up to make unfortunate people miserable.

I knew a very kind Japanese woman in Bubblews who had her parents in a Japanese internment camp in Vancouver. They were arrested, their properties confiscated and sold. It's so sad to see that now we are doing the same to people who did nothing wrong.

@MarieCoyle - The parents of the Bubblews friend I mentioned, lived in a very small apartment, but at least they were free now.

@LadyDuck That very small apartment no doubt seemed like a haven for them after living in a detention camp.

Yes, the Japanese Americans (most of who were actually born here in the US) were treated shamefully, and lost everything. Then the survivors were finally set free, and they had nothing.

Oh, yuck! How horrible. Yes, hate in it's purest form. When are we going to get rid of this poison that has taken over the office of the presidency? I remember about the Japanese interment camps. We need to stamp out such ugliness and bring back goodness and mercy.

There surely has to be a difference between criminals and illegal immigrants.

Oh, that had to be very hard for them. My parents were teens in WW2...but oh, did I ever hear about it all from my Dad and all the grandparents.

I agree with you that not everyone who comes to our nation illegally are criminals.

Alot of the Republicans who support Trump "claim" to be Christians. I don't know how they can reconcile his behavior and intentions to themselves. One comment..Shame on them!

Real Christians could never support the turmoil we are going through here. And now...so many are terrified about the big, beautiful bill...

The stories - yes. My mother was born in a concentration camp - and although she was too young to remember anything about it, you bet other family members remember well. And many of my friends with even older relatives have terrible memories - of during and after. One of her grandmothers refused reparation from the government . . . saying the real apology would be to never allow this to happen again to anyone. Sadly it IS happening again - we apparently have not learned from history. The merchandise - ugh - it is truly in bad taste.

I well remember the stories. None of my family was ever in one of those places, but we were close to people who were. Not enough food, illnesses, women and children were constantly molested....I don't think a lot of today's adults remember, or they never learned, that detention camps in the US were a real thing. And not a good thing, either. Like you said, we sure didn't learn anything from history.

The Christian way is to hate anymore. You will see new Bibles being written to allow for it.

@MarieCoyle Seen that the new camp wasn't even able to handle a rain storm. But they still want to move people into it soon

Sadly, in many cases this is true. Some seem to hide behind their Christian religion and spew nothing but hate.

I don't like the idea of the merchandise. I also agree with the protestors that don't want this facility in their pristine Everglades. What is this world coming to?
