Sunny Songs: Cinderella Sunshine

This morning I heard my next-door neighbors’ dog that they’re babysitting (it’s their son’s dog) barking, so that means he survived the fireworks. No problems (aside from the loud noise) on our block, and I hope it was the same for you. Here’s a sunny song for the sunny day we’re having here. Cinderella Sunshine - Paul Revere & the Raiders IF you remember this song, this isn’t the version you remember. I say “if,” for a number of reasons. First, it seems that Paul Revere & the Raiders are relegated to “Kicks” and “Cherokee Nation” on the oldies station. (That is, stations that still consider “oldies” to be oldies, and not new stuff from the 1990s. ) Secondly, this wasn’t a big hit. It didn’t make the top 50. The follow-up single, “Mr. Sun, Mr. Moon” (which would also fit in this countdown, and could have been used last month) was a top 20 song. I like this song better. Finally, the 45 version and the LP version were completely different. It wasn’t just an “edited for time” (the LP version was over four minutes long, which was long in the 60s; meanwhile, the 45 clocked in right at 2:00) thing: they are two different recordings. In the LP version (used here), you’ll hear them sneak in an ode to the classic Jimmie Davis song “You Are My Sunshine” (which you could have had on this list if Lou Christie hadn’t died last month ). If you were around in the 60s you may have heard this once or twice. I like digging out the not-so-obvious selections, and this is one of them. Cinderella Sunshine Written by Mark Lindsay Recorded by Paul Revere & the Raiders From Hard ‘n’ Heavy (With Marshmallow), 1968 Like the wind, you shouldn’t try to hold her:

"Kicks" was probably their biggest hit, or "Indian Reservation (Lament of the Cherokee People)."

@FourWalls I think it was another Paul Revere I had heard of on an antiques show. Yvonne said so. So it must be right

I love Cherokee Nation but I've never heard this song. They were pretty good on the 60s show Where the Action Is and I think they even showed up on Shindig

They were quite popular in the 60s. It's a shame that all they're remembered for now are those two songs.

What about Just Like Me or Hungry, those were pretty good too.

@rebelann — great songs, but I can’t tell you how long it’s been since I heard “Just Like Me.” Maybe “Hungry” got some play a few years back.

I used to be quite the fan of this band. My favorite song by them was "Indian Reservation". A lot of good ones though. They formed here in Boise and used to play at different functions.

Another new one. Glad you survived July 4th celebrations. I bet there were a few pets who were hiding under beds.

My brother said he closed up the house at 8 PM to get the kids (four dogs and a cat) settled in before the noise started.
