Coming and Going

Don't get me wrong. We love our camps, and so far, this year we have done 3 of them. One in April, one in May, we skipped June, and we just finished one of two camps scheduled for July. We'll be on another one in just two or three weeks or so. But it can be daunting. Not while you're set up and actually enjoying your time. But it's the getting to the campsite part and the getting back home part that, at least for me, is the least enjoyable. Of course, it's part of the bargain, right? Even though the camper has most of what you need in the cupboards, cubbies and cabinets, there's still always stuff you need to bring along. And that means loading the truck, and once you get there, loading the camper. Plus, it's all the setup. Connect to the truck, put on the sway bar system, then get on the road. Reverse that process when you get to where you're going of course. Maneuvering into campsites is not terrible, but always a bit of a challenge. Then it's all the hook ups. City water supply, electric, waste disposal, breaking out all your stuff stowed like the Keurig, the toaster, and so on and so forth. Leaving the campsite is usually a full morning of restowing everything, disconnecting all the "amenities," hooking back up, minor cleanup, loading the truck and so on and so forth. And then you get home and have to unload the truck. Like I said, it's a ton of fun, and we always enjoy the experience. But like any good time, there are always parts of it you really like the least and coming and going are the parts I dislike most.

Yes indeed Smaller scale camping can be quite stressful as well Yvonne moans a bit the tent and says I don't put it up right. So how many of you go on these trips? Looks a really good caravan Jim and a nice truck

@Ineeddentures 20s probably. Every Friday, we already bring our bags to work, and at night, we will meet up at a friend's house. We will start the trip very early in the morning

When I was younger, I would enjoy camping like you do, but now that I am older, I just want to stay home and avoid all the hassle. I may do it, once a year, if I need a breather.

@porwest we do not RV or trailer. We mostly hike and tent camp. Though nowadays, there are vehicles that can be rented almost similar to a trailer

Did you tent camp or did you have an RV or travel trailer? We have the camper, so it makes the experience a bit more "comfortable" despite there still being some work involved.

Getting ready for any trip is the hard part for me, and the longer I spend on it the more I take, whether I need it or not. I cannot imagine pulling a camper along with it.

@porwest Well, you cannot have it all so good. You also have to bear with some disadvantages.

The only complaint on this one was that it was quite hot outside. Even inside with the air running non-stop, it was hard for it to keep up. lol

Yes. It is. You have to get there and you have to get back, and wherever you are going everything has to work. It is what it is. But at least we make it worthwhile by doing 3 nights.

As you said, it's all part of it. I'm assuming you are home safe? I decided instead of writing my game show post here, since it's pretty long, I'm going to try HubPages. It's been years since I posted there.

@porwest OK. I have a whole bunch of notes; but today I saw a back issue of TV Guide Puzzler...the whole issue was on game shows. I'm going to wait until I get it to see what other information I can glean from it.

Yep. We got back home around noon. Glad to be home even if we had a great time camping. I'd LOVE to follow you on HubPages. Let me know if you post something and I'll be there.

Yes, that does get old. We did most of our camping with the kids when they were growing up and I loved it when they were old enough to pack for themselves! I think what I hated the most was packing the fresh food/refrigerator and unloading all of that. Especially things like condiments because we usually brought new jars and then you have to fit it all into your refrigerator at home when you get back. Flip side take what is in the fridge, and be totally out when you come home possibly. I can see how the set up would be a pain for just one person to do. We had that pretty much divided up and it went pretty quickly.

we went through all this with the Prado and caravan. It's a bit easier with the motor-home, not quite so much messing around setting up in the park. There is still a fair bit of packing cold stuff, clothes, etc.
