Pace of life and accidents

I have always wanted to do a study on this. I live in Hyderabad, famous for its laid back attitude. When I used to stay in Mumbai, I felt I never had a moment for me. The same day of 24 hours. Yet, somehow I was cramming in too much because I had no choice. Everything was fitting like a clockwork. You have to get up early because the bell rings and the milkman is there to give the milk, and you have to finish cooking fast, because by 8 the maid will turn up for her work, and by the time she leaves, which is about an hour, you have to finish packing everything, leave for college, the local train. Darn, so much time wasted standing in those overcrowded locals. Then at college, study...evening again local, walk back, on the way back, pick vegetables, and get home, freshen up do a little bit of study, too tired, eat something sleep. Nothing extraordinary same thing when done in Hyderabad does not feel as stressful. But I also felt, the hurried life in Mumbai made accident prone. I was breaking cups, falling down, etc. So....did you notice the difference between a fast paced town and slow paced town? Which one do you prefer, and do you think there are more accidents likely in fast paced world?

I like living where I do in a semi-rural area; but they are putting up a lot of new houses. However, I live on 1.25 acres; and there is a nursery next door to me; so it will stay pleasant for now. I don't like going into Mentor which is very crowded with a lot of traffic. I prefer the slower pace.

The differences you might have noticed could be due to the age of the person doing things... A young person is always hurried, thinking they have too much to do for a 24 hour day... And older, more experienced person knows they have all day to get things done so doesn't hurry, doesn't fumble things, watches where they put their feet and sails through their day easily. I've always lived in the same city I'm in now... Different houses, but the same city and within miles of where I was born and grew up.

Rushing out according to clock comes with its own problems....and stress...Did I lock the door properly, did I switch off the gas, did I place the milk inside the fridge. The first day, I had to place pressure cooker with rice in it...I forgot to add water..LOL

I can't say I have experienced the same differences between towns. But I agree that rushing always causes accidents. 'More haste, less speed' my mother used to say and that is so true. You rush, you forget something and have to go back for it, or you drop something and have to clear it up... it ends up taking longer.

London is supposed to be fast paced city, as is Mumbai (Bombay). I noticed one thing, when I am in Mumbai, I am extremely active. I cannot carry that down here. Don't know why. But that is how it is. I am happy enough deferring work out here. There ..I would feel, oh god, tomorrow I have to do this, day after that.

I certainly enjoy being retired. I get a bit stressed if I have too much to fit into a day.

I don't know why we created such stressful lives for ourselves.

I think there is a definite difference. Tennessee is a slower pace than Maryland so when we go back home I feel like everyone is zooming. It sounds weird coming from me since I'm always on the go but it's faster back home than here.

Strangely, we too unwittingly fit into that pace, even if we are on a vacation. LOL Which one do you prefer? And have you found yourself forgetting more things, losing things, or breaking things? I have fallen down a couple of steps several times back then. LOL

@vandana7 Well, I'm accident prone to begin with but I seem to hurt myself more when I slow down. I don't really have preference though, I can fit in with either pace.

In retrospect, it seems we achieve a lot in fast world. When we retire, it seems like nothing.
