Where does she get this?

My sister’s three kids are homeschooled, but that’s not a big deal because before my sister was married she was a teacher (high school). She teaches every subject, including Spanish (Hudson can now count to 20 in Spanish), but she starts each school day with Bible class. The other morning, Annelyn (aged 5) sat down at her desk, looked at my sister, and said, “So, what’s Jesus up to today?” That cracked me up. I love listening to children.

Who would have ever thought that Americans would call Christians, the Bible and God, evil? Calling wrong right and right wrong is a sure sign of worse times ahead. I actually think it would be great to start the day in worship. I want to know what Jesus is up to today too!

I completely agree with you. And thank for being bold, yes, bold enough to say it here.

I think that is great that she mentions Jesus and should be taught more about it,

Good idea that kids get to learn about the Lord at a young age and learn to get know Him as a special person.

It reminds me of when Amyra was seven and she told my sister that so many things she said were wise. Mindy asked what wise thing has stuck with her. “Life is too short to buy cheap toilet paper,” Amyra said approvingly.

I don't believe in homeschooling children. I mean I get that parents have that right but I never would be so presumptuous to attempt to homeschool a child. I have a college degree in science. I've taken tons of science classes. I still would never attempt to teach them chemistry or physics though. English? Algebra? Hell no. I have a childhood friend who went to college for like music/opera/whatever who just published an entire physics curriculum for homeschoolers. I was like WTF? Guarantee she never took a physics class in her life. Like stay in your lane.

They’ll get a better education at home than she will at the local public schools (they looked into it and also a local Christian school). But Hudson has to be homeschooled. Once he graduated special needs preschool there was nowhere else for him to go. His health problems prevent him from going to a regular school. And that is why Amyra was originally homeschooled. Up until around aged 7 she was in and out of the hospital. She would never have had good enough attendance to qualify to move on in grades. I’d put Amyra and Annelyn against any other child their age, and there’s not a doubt in my mind they’d test just as highly right now. Believe me, I didn’t want Amyra to be homeschooled. My dad and I both shut our mouths because it’s not our business. I STILL think Amyra would be better off in a regular school, but not because they’re lacking in getting a proper education. That being said, I understand a long tenured public school teacher feeling that way. A lady in my dad’s neighborhood started homeschooling their teenager when a piece of candy given to her at school turned out to be laced with something, and they ended up in the hospital. Funniest thing I heard my dad say about Annelyn last year. I showed him a picture of her in a plain, utilitarian dress, and asked my dad, didn’t she look cute? He raised his eyebrows and said, “Well, she certainly looks like a homeschooled child.”

@AmbiePam No one can competently homeschool their child in all subjects once they hit middle or high school. They can't. I couldn't do it and I have a college degree and am a teacher. Nope. Parents have the right to do what they want. Go for it. Let your kids be less educated. Not my issue.

That's a lot of responsibility for homeschooling. Good for her.

Luckily, she’s a crazy perfectionist. I’ve never seen anything like it.. She got her diploma at 16, her bachelors at 19, got a full time job teaching, and bought her own house. Then got her Masters at 21. I had hoped she’d put Amyra in school, but after seeing the curriculum at the local public school? She was like, uh, nope.
