Something I never thought I would need to do

As a parent I have found myself doing things I never used to do, or even things I thought I would never do. For example the phrase ‘Just a minute’ was never part of my vocabulary; now it’s something I seem to utter several times a day. I used to think that parents eating their children’s left-over food was disgusting; now I do it all the time. And I certainly never thought I would be telling my children to eat more chocolate! But here we are in July and there are still half-eaten Easter eggs lying about. I think this one actually has a cobweb inside the box! We deliberately didn’t get them too much chocolate this year, opting for quality over quantity, but there is still some left. I have been wondering whether I should eat some but then they would be sure to notice! All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2025.

Just tell the girls that they can eat it or you will... If it bothers them, they'll tell you to leave it alone... If it doesn't, then you can eat it without feeling guilty. I like chocolate and usually have some in my bedroom. If I kept it in the kitchen, Pretty would take it and I wouldn't get any. As it is, she'll come into my bedroom asking where I put my candy and will take it if I don't specifically tell her to leave it alone. Just like with other favorite foods, if I don't eat it fast enough to suit her, she'll take it anyway.

Oh if I ask whether they are going to eat it, they say yes most emphatically!

@Fleura Then I'd leave it alone or tell them to put it away so you don't have to see it.

Are they not really keen on chocolate? Even with no kids in our house, Easter chocolate wouldn't last that long.

That's the funny thing, they are keen, but only under certain circumstances it seems.

It seems to be the case of over stocking.

I know, and we were careful not to buy a lot this year.

If I were to start on their chocolate it would be gone in an instant. I hope you resolve this difficulty.

That’s funny. I was never a chocolate eater myself. That’s probably a good thing!

Believe it or not, my son was never much into sweets, so that made life easy.

Try telling the kids that if they don't want the chocolate, you do.

As I have been told many times when commenting about children, "Children change you." It seems to hold true.
