First Raspberry of the summer here in our garden
I decided to change the growing season of our Raspberries just a bit this year.
I didn't cut the old growth from.lasy year away until the end of February , start of March in an attempt to produce a later crop
Normally by the first week in July we would already have had a decent crop
Cutting the old growth away down to the ground has meant everything is now new and the plants do look healthier, greener and taller.
The new fruit on the new plants is starting to form beautifully
But hidden down near the ground, I found this and one other berry lol
Figured I must have missed a cane from last year
So here it is
Our first Raspberry of 2025

@Ineeddentures They can become pretty invasive if you do not prune them.

Yes
Well I sort of wanted that to happen
Had a space to fill
In our last house our Raspberry patch was 10 times the size of the one here
We never pruned them
They started as wild Rasps I dug up in a wood.
So tasted better

Go into the country and dig up some wild Rasps
They will grow and produce much tastier berries than you will pay through the nose for in a garden centre

I do love raspberries! I wish I had room to grow them here but I don't.

@Ineeddentures when I was a kid we would go raspberry picking and blueberry picking. I was lucky to live in a country area so we had plenty of wild stuff growing.

We are lucky because we do have a lot of space to grow them in

@Ineeddentures Is there any weather condition that would harm the crop now?

The real delight is seeing that it will be a very heavy crop judging by the amount of buds and berries starting to emerge.
I think my plan is working

Congrats. I don't eat fruit. Too much sugar. Plus I don't really like it.
