Back in Back, I Hit the Sack

Yes, I’m flubbing an AC/DC song line (“Back in black, I hit the sack” is the actual line) there.
I want to thank everyone for your kind words and thoughts. My back is still sore, but nowhere near the pain I had yesterday. Of course, I didn’t walk two miles then drive 200 today, either!!
After lunch today I went to the VA and got an x-ray. They got really busy right after they took the x-rays, so I told the triage nurse I was going home to make room for the people who might need more urgent care. (I mean, what are they going to do for a back? Tell me, “Take Tylenol, ice it, and rest”? I’m already doing that!) I’ll send a message to my primary care doctor tomorrow and ask her if she wants me to do some physical therapy or to get a soft brace that the doctor who saw me in the ER recommended.
The photo is where the damage was done, along the Wabash and Erie Canal. That’s a replica of a 19th-century canal boat. It had a rope on it so a few people could pull to see just how laborious a task it was for the mules on the towpath. Understand, I didn’t dig in like I was one person against a football team in a tug-of-war. I saw how hard it was (it didn’t budge), put the rope down, and continued walking along the towpath.
About ten minutes after that, it felt like a lightning bolt of pain hit me in the small of my back. I couldn’t move at all for about ten seconds. After that, movement was painful with a capital OUCH. Despite that, I went on the boat ride and walked through the museum and the village (which I’ll detail later, honest: I was enthralled, so you WILL be bored!
).
When my niece got a new-to-her car earlier this year I asked her if she had heated seats in it. She said no. I told her that those things were wonderful and NOT just for the winter. Believe me, they came in VERY handy on the drive home, supplying heat to my very aching back. (Thankfully, it was overcast all the way home, and I was in and out of rain, so it wasn’t as if I had heated seats going in a 95-degree, sunny day!)
Thanks again for your concern! MyLotters are the best!

I’ve obviously missed something! Sorry to hear you are in pain.
I hope it’s nothing serious and you’re quickly on the mend.

@FourWalls Hey! I’m not on here every day, so it’s hard to keep up with all the posts. I do my best with the music ones, but miss quite a few of those. We’re still on the sun, right?
I’m a big advocate of “rest”. I do a lot of it nowadays.
Now where are those music posts? Take care x

Yes, it wasn’t a music post.
It’s a minor complaint, and a little rest and anti-inflammatory medicine will get me back to my usual crazy self!

@Orson_Kart — yes, still doing sun songs. If we were “on” the sun we wouldn’t be worried about a sore back!

Glad to hear that your back is a bit better. That's a cute boat in the picture. It doesn't look like it would be that hard to pull.

@FourWalls .......or perhaps made of strong wood. It can become heavy when it gets wet.

I'm just glad you made it home, aching back and all! Once the pain hit, I would have left and gone home... But, I'm not all that enthralled with history.
I am wondering now if they often cause backaches with that "ride" and if someone should suggest they remove the rope before they get sued over it?
I'm glad you had heated seats on the drive home. They probably saved you from more serious pain today.

I always carry lidocaine patches with me as well, so the seat, the lidocaine, and the Tylenol held me. That’s still what I’m using, even though they have steroids and muscle relaxers waiting for me at the pharmacy in the morning.

@FourWalls I'm glad you were/are prepared when you go on your trips. If your journey took you past my house, I could have helped you with the muscle relaxers and Aspercreme... I also have Lidocaine but not in patches. I have the real thing in a tube and you would have been welcome to some of that, too.

A good indication of what the mules had to do.

I could never have walked after hurting my back. I don't know how you did it. I'm glad you're better. Have a good week and take it easy!

How did I walk after hurting my back? To paraphrase Tom Lehrer on The Electric Company, PAINFULLY! PAINFULLY! Painful, L-Y.

@FourWalls I remember hurting my back right before a Keys trip. Put a real damper on everything.
