Please someone say educate children !!! Schools in England break up this week for the 6 weeks Summer break….and already in the news we are getting parents saying ….. I can’t afford to feed my children in the holidays I will have to take time off work What am I supposed to do with them It’s so unfair I have to look after them for so long Well, excuse me, but they are YOUR children. Schools are there to educate them … NOT Provide free childcare Provide free food Provide free entertainment You all knew how schools were run before you had children. If you can’t afford to have them and look after them ….dont have them. Yes, it is tricky ….but that’s what holiday time with your family is about, that’s why it’s great to have a good relationship with extended family, that’s why Nanny’s and Childminders exist, that’s why there are holiday clubs….. Schools are there to educate your children ….everything else is your responsibility !

Too many parents have coddled their children, tried to be friends with them, and THINK they are making their lives easier and better by providing them with everything they need rather than teach them responsibility and hardship and sacrifice. To that end, we have created an entire society basically feeling entitled and in a welfare state mentality. It is not doing anyone any good. We need to go back to hard-knocks.

Teachers have become nothing more than overpaid glorified babysitters.

@porwest I do so agree, I wish more people would think like that and not be afraid to say it.

Schools in the USA are RIDICULOUS! They think they have to feed them and cut their hair and do their laundry and provide them mental health counseling. In the meantime they AREN"T TEACHING them and the kids are coming out of school undereducated

Diplomas have become nothing more than another participation trophy, and the schools have become cesspools of liberal ideology and mere indoctrination camps.

@LooeyVille exactly. School staff spend so much of their time doing other things that teaching becomes a smaller and smaller part of their day ….then they get moaned at when the children don’t get the results they should.

I know teachers are there to teach the kids, not babysit them! If you don't know how expensive having kids can get, and can't afford to feed and clothe the kids, why have them? Some people are really ignorant about the costs involved and have kids anyway. What the heck? My first wife and I made sure we had the income to have our kid and keep her fed and clothed before we tried to have her... Kids are a 24 hour, 365 day a year job! My parents had 16 kids and dad worked and kept us fed and clothed... I was 13 when dad passed away and then mom applied for free lunches for me and my youngest brother... But mom still provided the other two meals every day and bought our clothing. We were poor but people now act like they have absolutely NO money for food or clothing for their kids... I just don't understand it!

I don't have an issue with schools providing free breakfast and lunch for students. It isn't the healthiest (at least from what I've seen) but it sometimes is the only food that they get during the day.
