A day out

Every year my brother and his wife take their vacation to celebrate their anniversary.
They drove up here to Kansas, and we made aa day of it.
Our stops included STRATACA the under ground salt museum. We had never been, and the temperature looked promising at a steady 68 F undeerground. I will say that it is a coolish day here anyway but the salt mines were pleasant. I will see later if I can share a picture or two.
Besides being a museum there is also active salt mining going on. The caves are also used to store important documents, a cache of emergency food in case of a disaster, and Movie costumes and memorabilia. This is because of the constant temperature and dry air as well as being 650 feet under ground.
We ate mid afternoon at a Chinese buffet (we will not be needing an evening meel). We also went to an Amish discount grocery store.
Family went on to Winfield to visit sister-in-law's brothers. They may drive to Newton for church Sunday morning.
I am tired. Wearing the hard hat for the two and a half hour tour made my head hurt, but it is needed for safety. I learned a lot. Hope you had a good day.

I always hated wearing hard hats. They gave me headaches, too.
There is an underground storage facility in Springfield that a lot of businesses use to store "stuff". The last time I was there was like 20 or more years ago. It's just a big cave with different businesses chaining or fencing off their sections. It's not a tourist destination by any means.
I'm glad you had fun visiting with your brother and SIL... Chinese food sounds really good but I'm hungry again an hour or two after we eat when it's Chinese.
Going to the Amish store sounds good, too. Wish there was one around here.
Have a good night.

Do you get a chance to try to mine the ground salt?
Chinese Buffet? I never have it before.

Hard hats are never comfortable to wear. The temperature is always nice underground.

Sounds like a fun time. My husband worked in a salt mine 2,000 feet under Lake Erie for 25 years.

It sounds very interesting. I went to a salt spa one time. That was neat.

Did you ride in an elevator to go down into the Earth?

This is the first time that I heard about STRATACA the under ground salt museum..
Why wear a hard hat? Are there fallen debris underground?
