It was an insanely crazy day!

That's the only way I can think of to describe it.
Son was to have a transfusion, infusion, and before those, an appointment with his primary for a check. He didn't sleep hardly at all last night, just wasn't feeling well at all. So of course, I didn't sleep either. Morning arrived, we got ready and headed out for all of this, which is normal now for us, if you can possibly call our lives normal at this point.
Primary check went well, I of course don't go in with him unless he requests me to, but I was out in the waiting area. We left there for the treatment center. Son has had another port put in several weeks back, when he was in the hospital, as it was getting really impossible to find a vein for these treatments, etc. so they said if he had a port again for awhile, it would help the veins to heal again. It's worked before, so yes, we did it again. Plus, the port saves an insane amount of sticks and blown out veins.
They hooked him up and immediately had problems. For some reason they do not understand, the port simply didn't work and somehow developed a problem that backed up all the blood they were trying to put in him in his usual transfusion. They checked it, etc. as ports last longer than that! Still didn't work, no matter what they did. Finally a surgical assistant took him and they put in a new port, in the other arm. Then his BP shot up and they couldn't get it down, so they gave him two shots for that (he has AFIB now since the accident). Finally, back to square one and they managed to get the transfusion done, and the new port works. Then the infusion. Then his BP shot back up...more running around by doc and nurses, etc. more meds. I felt like we were in a bad dream.
He was pretty wiped out after all of this, and yes, I was as well. I think that's normal, it's easy to get overloaded and worried over medical procedures. Finally about 9PM, we made it back home. He ate some dinner, slept for about 2 hours, and now he is watching TV from the couch.
For some reason, of course today was the day I had a lot of phone calls, some medical appointments for him, one for me, several friends, and my daughter, who came to the hospital for awhile to offer her support along with the son in law.
Just when I thought things were calming down, I got a call from a very close friend. Her 2 grandsons, ages 10 and 12, were riding a four wheeler and turned it over. The oldest boy wasn't hurt except for some minor cuts. The younger one was life flighted to a larger hospital, and is currently in surgery for a brain bleed. They think he will be ok, but not sure what damage might or might not be permanent at this point, not yet.
Usually, I never wish time away. But now it's a new day! I will be glad to put this one behind us!

Oh, bless your heart! What harrowing experiences. Is the port okay and bp normal? I'm praying for both of you and that sweet boy who got hurt.

Port is new and hopefully will last for several months, unless they feel he can do without it. My friend's grandson seems to have survived the surgery, etc. well, they have not tested him yet to find if he has any permanent damage of any kind. He seems OK, but is of course still in bed and will have a long recovery. Thank you, Vicki.

Oh my goodness, my dear friend you had a horrible day, surely a day to forget. Your poor son had to endure so many procedures and I can barely imagine your stress while you were waiting. And to end the day the tragic event happened to the 2 grandsons of your friend.
Let's hope that today is a better day and you can finally receive good news.

@MarieCoyle - I am so glad to know that your son is feeling better. There are days we get terribly depressed.

Today was better...he rested a lot, and I can say that he is trying to keep his spirit positive. He made the comment that for awhile, he just felt he was going backward, but now he feels like he's got the spirit and strength to fight as much as he has to, to be better. Thank you so much, Anna.

He made it through the surgery and he can walk, although slowly of course. He will have to have some plastic surgery on his facial wounds, and some extra dental work. More tests to check for more cognitive damages...it's not over, but he's alive, and his brain works, so that's a huge plus!
For the record, I hate four wheelers for kids. And his Dad (their parents are divorced) never enforced the helmet thing, and look what happened.

He will have to have several more surgeries to repair the facial damage. I hope he will be completely well, time will tell. He is a very nice young man.

That's a lot to happen within a day. I would go bonkers too if I experienced that. I admire your strength and courage to hold the line despite everything. I will be praying for you, your son, and even for your friend so that you can gather the strength to keep going. It isn't much, but that is all I could offer.

I hope that your son is doing better now and that the young boy will be okay. My son had a friend die from a 4 wheeler accident when they were in elementary school.

I feel the laws are not strict enough on the four wheelers. Every summer, same thing, some teen or child is terribly hurt, or killed on one. Kids often do not have enough experience with handling anything like that to be driving it over a rough terrain. Thank you, Marie.
