I have finally done it. Japan has been on one of my places to visit list for many years. I have to say it was better than I thought it would be. We flew from London to Tokyo & had 2 days there before joining a cruise for 11 days visiting a new port every day. We did a few of the famous spots despite it being really hot & humid. Shibuya crossing, Mount Fuji, Senso Ji temple including a trip on a Shinkansen train after visiting Mount Fuji. Japan is a beautiful country & is extremely clean despite having no litter bins everyone is supposed to take their rubbish home to dispose of it. One of the reasons for this is because several members of a dooms day sect caused a terrorist attack on Tokyos subways system realising the toxic poison nerve gas Sarin. 12 people were killed and 5,500 were affected. The metro system is vast covering the whole city of 12 million people plus 3 million workers commute into the city to work. Tourist swell the numbers too with millions of visitors visiting every day! Also there was nowhere to sit down you just have to keep walking! There are hundreds of drinks machines on the streets where you can buy bottles of drink but you have to take it home to dispose of the bottles. We found the Japanese people were very polite everywhere. They were constantly bowing as a form of greeting & respect. The food was interesting but very different to what we are used to. There was no way I could master the use of chopsticks. I just can not do it. They did provide a fork and spoon though in most places. It is an intreresting country & I would dearly like to return one day. The photo is of Senso Ji Temple which we visited at night. It was still busy but not as busy as during the day time when it is packed with tourists.

@garymarsh6 I sure hope so. My grandma went there on a ship in 1920. She was there several months. She absolutely loved it.

It sounds magically beautiful, and to be able to visit a place that you've looked forward to for such a long time, that must have been a very special feeling.

@garymarsh6 I know, I think of Gilly often, today is no different as we shared this day in common. I pray that her husband, and family are getting along well since her passing, she seemed so much like the glue of fun that held them all together. I am sure that she is smiling down on them from a better place where she can breathe easier.

@Juliaacv yes it saddens me. I still find it hard to believe I am sure she is partying wherever she may be. Lovely to touch base with you!

It was an amazing experience sadly the photo did not upload! I just had a painfully reminder of our mutual friends birthday today. How sad!

It's a good thing you went and enjoyed the place. This is another location that we hope to visit and get a feel for. I've been watching a lot of YouTube videos and would like to visit someday. We simply need to prepare and obtain a visa, which is what we anticipate.

Japan sounds so civilized. I couldn't master the chopsticks either. I don't see any photo. I bet it is lovely though.

I would have loved to visit Japan. I have friends who visited and they all told me how clean and well organized it is. I have never been good either managing the chopsticks. I hope you can visit again in the future.

@garymarsh6 - I agree that it is too hot and visiting when the temperature is so high becomes a pain.

I travelled to Japan in summer in 2017. This journey left me a very good impression. I was used to Japanese food as I like eating sushi. And sometimes we will eat noodles. I just think that the lifts were not that common in Toyko subways. We had to walk on the stairs. Besides it, everything was great.

There were a few escalators but mostly there were just stairs! Glad you enjoyed your time there.
