Knie Circus Posters

The photo shows more of the posters that adorn the walls of our lounge. These are still circus-related but have the word ‘Knie’ on them. The Knie family founded Circus Knie in Switzerland in 1803 and it has remained in the family for over seven generations. It is regarded as Switzerland’s national circus and was originally a travelling equestrian show. It was/is one of the most prestigious circuses in Europe. It has adapted to public attitudes as regards animal acts and now focuses on human talent and modern artistry. We head home tomorrow and it’s now just a week till our ‘Irish’ son comes to visit.

I hope your trip home is better than the trip there... Good luck with it! You'll both need a few days to rest up from this trip and prepare to see your other son.

It should be easier heading home. We get a tram to the centre of the city then catch a special bus to the airport. Vince's brother is picking us up at the other end so it should all be good. Thanks.

Knie Circus is still famous in Switzerland and Princess Stephanie of Monaco had a relationship with the Director (owner) of the Knie Circus years ago.

@JudyEv They tour Switzerland all the time. They performed in Monte Carlo during the annual Circus Festival.

@LadyDuck I have some circus books with some amazing photos from the various circuses. I also have a couple of videos but I need to get them converted to something that I'm able to watch.

I wasn't sure how relevant the Knie circus was today. I'm glad it's still going strong.

Interesting facts about that circus. Are they merely there as a display of memorabilia, or do they still perform today? I hope you have a great time when you meet your other son.

As far as I know the circus still performs in Switzerland. These are really just decorations on the wall.

@JudyEv That's too bad about your son. I'm glad you had a visit with him.

We would pay for the Melbourne son to come to Perth while the Irish son is visiting but I don't think he'll come. He gets anxiety and get stressed easily. In the end, it probably wouldn't be much fun for anyone.

Cool posters. I'm glad they are focusing on human rather than animal talent. How exciting that your son is coming to visit.

Animals and circuses is a thing of the past. Pity really. I always hoped that a Lion Tamer would get ripped to bits Infront of all the wee kiddies in the front row

There are still travelling circuses here but very few animal acts. Maybe a horse or two but that's about it.

Yes, it's better as it is but I'm still a bit glad I saw some awesome animal acts before I got old enough to know how bad it was for the animals.

I think I do too. There were a couple of others but I liked them even less so didn't photograph them. We're home now thanks.

I do remember complaints from animal rights groups about circuses mistreating animals. Happy to learn that the Knie circus now focuses on human talents and safety.
