Things children say

I don't have access to all my photos while we're away so this has nothing to do with the discussion. Someone’s discussion brought this memory back to mind but I’m afraid I can’t remember whose post it was. However, I thought I’d share the memory. Vince went away for a few days for a business meeting. The two boys were only little, maybe 2 and 4, but I knew, and they knew, he’d bring them back something. I had told them that they should say something nice to him before asking if he’d brought them something. So as he came across the country airport, they ran to meet him shouting ‘Hello Daddy’ and then in the next breath, ‘What did you bring us?’ I guess you could say they followed directions.

Well.......at least they did run to him and they did say something nice by their greeting, but their excitement must have been so high to see what they would receive. Harper said something funny last week. Grandpa served them something that we had had for supper earlier that week for their lunch. Harper asked if Nanny had made this, and then exclaimed that she was wondering when she would have this again, she was waiting for such a long time. Then I wondered, what is 'such a long time' when you are 3.5 years old?

I understand how kids think. When I was young, to see my cousins going to work and to come back in the evening (I stay with my aunt and godfather (her husband) when I was young). I felt that one day was a really long time. And it is really boring to be at home. But in compare to now, a single day just pass so fast

I guess even a few minutes can seem like a long time - especially if you're dying to get to a toilet!! lol

@id_peace It all depends on whether you're having fun or not. If you're bored then time goes slowly.

Yes, thanks. We're back home and I've done a load of washing but there is no way it will dry unless I use the dryer. It's starting to storm here.

@JudyEv You're welcome. Stay safe. We are hoping for some rain on Thursday or Friday. It's been so dry.

That emu has his eyes crossed. Artists are very clever at putting expressions on animals.

I can see they followed instructions, at least. It's funny how some adult brains work, let alone little kid brains.

@JudyEv Pretty used to repeat things she heard my friends say... Sometimes it would make me mad... I'd get blamed for that!

That’s such a sweet memory—kids really do take instructions very literally! It’s adorable how they made sure to say “Hello Daddy” first before getting straight to the point. Moments like that stick with you—and it’s funny how little things can suddenly bring them back. Thanks for sharing this!

I can understand how you would have really looked forward to those chocolates. I'm sure it is hard work for you now caring for him.

It was almost a given that parents would bring some little gift if they'd been away for a long time.

At least they remembered! When Tammy was little she asked my why I wore make up. I said, "Oh, to look pretty." She said, "Don't do no good." Brutal.

That's funny! You would have thought that they would have elaborated a little further on the "Hello Daddy" part, by saying something like, "Glad you're home" or "You look great!" Well, at least they got in a hello before asking what he brought them back!

At this age, kids just said what they really want. That is why we like kids because they are so truthful to you with no hidden agenda.
